There’s people who already commented how to avoid the update by changing to ltsc or just not doing it. But how will you get security updates?
There’s a company called 0patch that makes em. They don’t even need a restart to apply like the ms ones do. It’s ~$25 a year.
The alternative is to switch to a mac, which isn’t a bad choice tbh once you can tank the buy-in.
well ltsc will have security patches til 2027 or whatever.
(also the better alternative is 1000% to switch to linux, not a pc brand that costs 2-3x as much and runs a slightly more pleasant but still ultimately kinda shitty OS)
Op said they don’t wanna switch to Linux and there’s a bunch of good reasons they might have. I keep a mac for several reasons and one is being able to “be normal” when it’s important.
If you gotta get away from windows and can’t build your life around what Linux does and doesn’t allow then going the apple route is a viable choice.
Security updates are a scam. I have never gotten a virus since I stopped using public library computers. You don't really need that shit.
Security updates are not a scam.
Just the other day there was a patched ntlm exploit that would trigger if you deleted, moved or right clicked the payload file.
There's no reason security updates can't be a total scam but also still be necessary. Just like a protection racket, if you don't pay the protection money, you will get beaten by some dude with a baseball bat. The solution is to go somewhere else where "protection" isn't really needed, at least nowhere near as much, or to get protection from someone who provides it for free to all in the community.
Security updates are free.
The only reason the ppl I pointed the op at exist doing them for two bucks a month is because after ltsc expires ms is gonna stop.
You’re literally in a place where protection is needed. A federated platform where you self identify as a person of interest.
But you are not going to get any of those either way.
I would 100% have fallen for that one and five years ago when I was still running my day to day in windows it would have been a useful exploit.
install windows xp on a machine, connect it to the Internet and wait 30min
I wish I could, my hardware does not support it, now that's an os that isn't dogshit.
I honestly can't tell if you're serious. Viruses aren't the only thing that can happen.
