My understanding is adults won't get a smoke leaf addiction if they only take it every other day. That's what the policy is set to and two people developed an addiction. What could I be missing? Or does the policy need to be a little more strict to account for them taking some at the end of a day and then again in the morning the day after? (~25 hours instead of 48 hours.)

Edit: The schedule is its own thing apart from "for recreation" and "for addiction". The proper way to avoid addictions would be to leave "for recreation" disabled and set a threshold on the schedule for when they should use them. I'm still not sure if they have "any" for mood and recreation and "every x days" if they take them on a strict schedule regardless of mood/recreation or if they still consider them. It's hard to say because I have a mod installed that affects that as well.

First, you have recreational use turned off, right? If it's on, they'll take it when they want it AND when it's scheduled.

If they're only taking it on schedule, try adding an extra day.

That said, I try to be careful about smokeleaf use because it has a big negative effect on productivity. I try to save it for managing mood crises.

Oh dude, what? I just read that on the Wiki. That's so counterintuitive!

Edit: To be clear, I would've expected "for recreation" and "for addiction" to be what to consider using them for and then the schedule to limit it.

I usually set pawns to be allowed recreational smokeleaf use but only if their mood is below a certain point. It gives them a nice mood boost periodically when they are down but limits use to prevent tolerance/addiction.

Apparently that's not how it works. If you set it to "for recreation" they just do it whenever they damn well please. "For recreation" and "schedule" are totally different.

If you schedule drug use they will take it on a schedule. And yes it will overlap with recreational use where they grab it when they want.

I'm talking about only recreational but also setting a mood threshold.

The mood threshold is tied to the schedule though. You cannot set mood thresholds except for scheduled usage. It sounds like you have the same misunderstanding that I did. The system is extremely counterintuitive.

Hmm okay I'll have to log onto my colony later and look. I haven't set a complex drug policy on my recent colonies. I used to have a pretty complex setup with luciferium, beer, smokeleaf and psychite tea and got it setup so no one was addicted (except the luciferium users).

I agree, I feel like I've gotten a fair handle on everything in this game except the drug policy. I don't think it's clear. In particular, my colonists seem to ignore orders to carry drugs with them (in the previous version, anyway; I haven't yet used the drug policy in v1.6).

Sanity checking, they don't have chemical interest/fascination trait, right? If they have that they automatically treat it as for recreation (and maybe for addiction too idk).
