Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

I hate you. This is the dumbest thing I've seen in a long time.

Upvoted.

"Dragostea Din Tei" (pronounced [ˈdraɡoste̯a din ˈtej] ⓘ; official English title: "Words of Love",[2][3] also informally known as "Maya Hi" and "Numa Numa") is a song by Moldovan pop group O-Zone, released as the second single from their third studio album, DiscO-Zone (2004). The song's title is Romanian for "Love from the linden tree".

Excuse me Europe, but I have to ask: What the fuck?

[–] Downcount@lemmy.world 31 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Excuse ME! You weren't aware of it?

This is, what made this track to an everlasting Internet meme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JpMPAaQSyQ

[–] sigmaklimgrindset@sopuli.xyz 17 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

Man, I miss having fun on the internet without the fear of millions of people bullying/doxxing me or a corporation using my likeness to spread viral marketing/train their shitty AI.

I always thought Numa Numa guy looks like he's having a lot of fun

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago

It's weird. I think half of the people who watched it were like you (and me) and the other half were like, "ha ha fat guy."

But then I think most of the ridicule of that Star Wars kid, who ended up having serious psychological issues stemming from it, was because he was fat too.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 11 points 9 months ago (2 children)

I know the song. I didn't know anything about the weirdness behind it.

[–] kuberoot@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I don't get it, what's so weird about it?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago (3 children)

For one thing, "Love from the Linden Tree" is a weird name for a song. For another, the band is Moldovan, but the song's name is in Romanian.

[–] thefluffiest@feddit.nl 14 points 9 months ago

Languages in Europe do not stick to national borders per se. History and all that.

[–] kuberoot@discuss.tchncs.de 11 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Looking it up, seems like Moldova speaks Romanian, so nothing weird about that?

And is that really a "weird" name for a song? Don't forget it's gonna sound awkward since it's a translation, but it seems like a mostly typical name for a song.

[–] kuberoot@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 9 months ago

The page you linked says

Outdated name for the Romanian language in Moldova

However, I don't know the details, so if Moldova has a different variant or dialect, and the song title doesn't use that, you might have a point.

[–] lingh0e@sh.itjust.works 2 points 9 months ago

For one thing, "Love from the Linden Tree" is a weird name for a song.

Especially considering the linden tree's specific smell.

Excuse me Europe, but I have to ask: What the fuck?

Northwestern European here: I had no idea at the time and still don't. I hereby pass this question along to Eastern Europe.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

Baby don’t hurt me.

[–] fidodo@lemmy.world 29 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Do the kids still know about numa numa? I hope that greatness transcended generations

[–] orbitz@lemmy.ca 5 points 9 months ago

That was a video version of the phrase 'dance like no one is watching', he seemed like he was having an awesome time and put himself out there to see. It always makes me smile.

I sort of compare it to 'the star wars kid', who as far as I know didn't want it released and was teased (bullied?) merciless for it. Sometimes people just want to goof off and want to have fun and shouldn't have to worry about being teased cause, what is life if you don't enjoy it?

[–] Rooki@lemmy.world 27 points 9 months ago

Nice one lol XD

I will never not say Paul Reubens wasn't done dirty. Peewee was great, showed my daughter Peewee's Great Adventure and she loved it. Need to get the kids on the show, because I watched it and I am well-enough adjusted.

This feels like a meme that has been kept in cold storage for the past 20 years.

No complaints - it’s just like seeing “all your base are belong to us” played straight. Truly a simpler time

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

C/StasisMemes when?

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 1 points 9 months ago

Cold storage? I believe you meant in the pattern buffer.

[–] Thrashy@lemmy.world 18 points 9 months ago (3 children)

If you understand this meme, it's time to schedule a colonoscopy...

I and my college friends sang and danced to this to cap off an all-night LAN party, 17 years ago. Now we've all got desk jobs and kids and chronic illnesses. Where did the years go!?

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 8 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Hell.

Those years went to hell.

MY KNEES.

My most prized possession is my collection of compression sleeves!

[–] Knossos@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Someone hacked their university information display panels to play it instead of timetabling data all over the campus.

[–] twotonebax@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

I'm old now :c

@Stamets what have you done? ... Now my week will be infected by this song

The original Numa Numa meme with Gary Brolsma

He seems to still be enjoying his internet fame from almost 20 years ago now! His original viral video was posted in December 2004.

[–] gregorum@lemm.ee 5 points 9 months ago (1 children)

There was a time where it actually required great effort to avoid this song and video. For 20 years, I have managed to do so. I am very proud to say that I’ve never seen this video.

[–] jawa21@startrek.website 6 points 9 months ago

I can't necessarily say I blame you. The original video is so bubbly, cloying, and ... happy.

[–] TheGoldenGod@lemmy.world 12 points 9 months ago

Damn, I didn’t need this song in my head. 😂

[–] grue@lemmy.world 11 points 9 months ago

enthusiastically dances

[–] Luvs2Spuj@lemmy.world 8 points 9 months ago

This made me smile in such a nice way. Thank you.

[–] DingoBilly@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago

It doesn't really work because the last panel has the wrong lyric though.

[–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 4 points 9 months ago

This really wiped some dust off my ancient bones

[–] verity_kindle@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

Dance, magic, dance! Where are the Trekyrinth memes? :::imperious gesture with glass ball:::::

[–] FlightyPenguin@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

I start singing this song every time I hear Lewis Capaldi's "Someone You Loved".

[–] dipshit@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Ragu-sledding, yay!

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

Must be Q up to his usual shenanigans.

[–] FastWarfarin@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Now I can't stop singing this in my head

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

You're welcome
