There are plenty of laws that require platforms to police publically accessible content. From SMS filters, ISPs are required to have, to CSAM reporting chat platforms like Discord have to do.

Government can't read or police E2EE messages, even if they want to. Telegram just doesn't care about that.

[-] BrikoX@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 hours ago

The comparison was uncalled-for, but Telegram earned its reputation by conscious action and not inaction. If they wanted to avoid all of this mess, they could have easily done that by enable E2EE by default. Policing Telegram's public groups is no different from Discord servers or other centralized non-encrypted platforms.

I'm someone who generally is against slapping "AI" on everything just to cash in on the hype bubble, but this is a great example of access providing something good that wouldn't exist otherwise.

The whole ethical "AI" discussion has its place, but nobody who is objective can't deny that more creative tools is a good thing. In the same way, as moving from paper to digital tools was a great thing which made it more accessible to more people and fostered creativity.

Anything "AI" is controversial, from what I have seen. But people probably expressed their opinions so many times already that they are just voting and moving on now.

Well damn, NY Times airing that IDF killed their own hostages is something I didn't expect. Props to Riley Mellen, Neil Collier, Natalie Reneau and Alexander Cardia for doing actual journalism.

Tougher crimes for sexual violence is definitely warranted (not death penalty though), and not just in India. But like you said, that alone won't solve the issue as it's engrained in the culture. The culture that is promoted by PM Modi and his party though, so any real changes are unlikely.

It's definitely not something a regular user should panic over. But it's a huge deal since a lot of high security, sensitive targets also rely on the same library.
