Rules:

  1. No imperialist apologia. The DPRK didn't start the war. US imperialist invasion was not justified. Neither are their army bases in south Korea. The sanctions were and are not justified.

  2. Be respectful. The imperialist media likes to describe the DPRK people as completely brainwashed, and that it'd be fine to completely destroy that country in an invasion. Don't act like the imperialist media.

  3. Be skeptical of your sources. Don't trust the media that has been known to report many falsehoods about Korea already. (You may still link to them if they write something interesting / worth reading, just be careful.)

One day in November 2021, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un visited Samjiyon City which was turned into a good standard of mountain cultural cities and then dropped in at the Junghung Farm.

After exchanging greetings with the officials who came to meet him, Kim Jong Un said that the farm villages in Samjiyon City including the Junghung Farm village were built to meet the needs of socialism and they passed the examination as the farmers were pleased. And he said that the new farm villages in Samjiyon City are models of the rural villages across the country we are planning to build in the future.

But even then, the officials did not know well the intention of Kim Jong Un.

That day, he said that the Junghung-ri seat village is a model rural village and standard of rural rejuvenation and it is the determination of the Workers' Party of Korea to build such a rural village not only in Samjiyon City but in all parts of the country.

He stressed that all the rural villages across the country should be built at the level of the Junghung-ri seat village, it is our fighting task and goal, not a foolish dream, and this is an undertaking to be surely carried out in our generation at any cost.

The undertaking to be surely carried out in our generation at any cost!

Indeed, he expressed his firm determination to bring about a radical change not only in Samjiyon City but also in the whole countryside, as he has the strong will to provide our people with wealth of lasting value and happier living conditions without fail however difficult and hard it may be.

Thanks to his sincere and steadfast will, a new era in which rural villages across the country are undergoing eye-opening changes is opening up, new civilization and new life are being brought into full bloom in the countryside, and this land is taking on a new appearance day by day.

Pyongy6ang, July 20 (KCNA) -- In the new era of rural rejuvenation ushered in by the great Workers' Party of Korea, a great change is taking place in the direction of agricultural production of the DPRK and the material and technical foundations guaranteeing sustainable and stable growth are further being strengthened.

The Party Central Committee set it as the main task of the strategy for developing the countryside to completely solve the country's food problem by increasing agricultural production. It made a crucial decision on pushing ahead with rice and wheat farming by changing the crop distribution and led the struggle for realizing it, thus opening a new history of the bumper harvest of wheat and barley.

The work to implement the Party's policy of changing the structure of grain production set forth in the programme for the rural revolution in the new era has been launched on a nationwide scale. In the course, a change in the understanding of wheat farming among agricultural officials and working people bas been taken place, scientific farming methods, experience and solid foundations for the growth of wheat production laid and the area of wheat cultivation increased every year. This year alone, 30 000 more hectares of cultivation areas were turned into the ones for growing wheat as compared with last year.

Thanks to the completion of the harvest of wheat and barley in the right season this year, the state grain production plan was over-fulfilled and the wheat yield of this year is expected to be increased more than three times than 2021. Thirty-four high-yield counties and 664 high-yield farms were produced, and many high-yield workteams and sub-workteams and bumper croppers were produced.

Rich harvest in wheat and barley farming made in a major thrust front of socialist economic construction is a clear proof of the validity and vitality of the new agricultural policy of the WPK. It is also a brilliant fruition of the revolutionary creation and thoroughgoing spirit of implementation of the DPRK people who are upholding the plan and decision of the Party Central Committee with one mind and loyalty, cherishing the firm faith that the plan and decision of the Party Central Committee are science, practice and victory.

In his policy speech at the Fifth Session of the 14th Supreme People's Assembly, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un advanced the policy of boldly changing the crop distribution and turning into rice farming and wheat and barley farming. At the Fourth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Party Central Committee, he clarified the programme for the rural revolution in the new era and underscored the need to change the people's dietary culture into the one with the main stress on white rice and flour dishes as the main.

Thanks to the great fatherly leader who has always discussed the issue of wheat farming and taken necessary measures to steadily increase the area of wheat cultivation and output every year at important meetings and wisely led to their execution, a unified system of command and supply of necessary farming materials for expanding and developing the wheat and barley farming was established throughout the country and a new turn was brought about in agricultural production.

Thanks to the active efforts of the officials and working people in the agricultural sector, the area for growing wheat has increased more than twice than four years ago.

As the area of wheat cultivation increased, a high-yield movement has been waged in different parts of the country to increase productivity.

The countryside set a bold goal of breaking through the national per-hectare yield standard and took measures to secure high-yielding wheat seed, improve fertility of fields, introduce advanced cultivation methods, manufacture grain dryers and cope with disastrous abnormal weather.

The scientific farming promotion teams have taken sci-tech measures to produce high yields and disseminate advanced agricultural knowledge to the sub-workteams, further increasing the enthusiasm for scientific farming.

With the change in the structure of grain production and farming methods and the growth of wheat production throughout the country, the number of high-yield units has increased, resulting in a special change in the history of socialist rural construction in the country.

In the course of pushing ahead with and reaping rich harvest in wheat farming in the rural areas across the country for the past four years, the agricultural working people have redoubled their confidence and enthusiasm that they can attain any goal of grain production if they do all the things according to the Party's policy.

All the officials and working people in the agricultural sector, not content with the successes they have achieved, are putting spurs to the struggle for attaining this year's goal of grain production set forth by the Party with loyalty and patriotism to make redoubled efforts to implement the Party's policy on ensuring the overwhelming proportion of rice and wheat farming in grain production.

North Korea has revealed the look of a large new “international airport” and rail station under construction near the border with China, one year after leader Kim Jong Un announced the project as part of plans to boost tourism.

State TV aired a 3D render of the project on Friday, showing a multi-story Samjiyon International Airport terminal building that connects to a three-platform rail station.

The existing 2-mile (3.3 km) airport runway appears slated for minor upgrades like resurfacing, adding parking aprons and rearranging taxiways, according to blueprints displayed on site that were partially visible in the Korean Central Television (KCTV) footage.

Kim Jong Un reportedly said the Samiyon area will “become a tourist zone where friendly foreign friends can feel a unique attraction” during a visit in July 2024, adding that the ski resort and other construction will help “revitalize international tourism.”

However, KCTV and other state outlets have also pushed the line in recent days that the newly opened Wonsan Kalma beach resort zone is “temporarily” closed to foreign tourists, with the exception of Russians, articulating what appears to be a nationwide policy.

The significant investments in Samjiyon suggest Kim still sees Chinese tourists as a key source of income and path to maintaining friendly relations, while the Chinese ambassador also called for resuming tourism when he visited Samjiyon last month.

But it is unknown whether Beijing or Pyongyang is responsible for blocking tourism to the DPRK since Kim lifted the country’s pandemic-related travel ban two years ago.

PARIS, July 13 (Yonhap) -- A scenic mountain known for its beauty that changes with the seasons, North Korea's Mount Kumgang has been named a UNESCO World Heritage site.

UNESCO added Mount Kumgang to its World Heritage list following the 47th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Paris on Sunday. The official name of the place entering the list is "Mt. Kumgang - Diamond Mountain from the Sea."

In May this year, the International Council on Monuments and Sites and the International Union for Conservation of Nature, which serve as advisory bodies to the World Heritage Committee, had recommended the inclusion of Mount Kumgang on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

UNESCO's website describes Mount Kumgang as "a strikingly beautiful mountain with numerous peaks and curious rocks amounting to some 1,2000, waterfalls and pools formed by crystal-like clear waters flowing from hundreds of gorges, as well as with the seascape stretched along the coastline."

"Mt. Kumgang is permeated with numerous legends and cultural relics handed over down through generations," the site also says.

After Mount Kumgang's inscription became official, members of the North Korean delegation rose from their seats and held up their national flag in celebration.

In an executive summary of Mount Kumgang's entry, UNESCO noted that the mountain is "a mixed natural and cultural heritage and also a cultural landscape, showing a variety of landscapes of exceptional natural beauty and significant evolving physiographical feature."

"The property contains Korea's most significant Buddhist mountain culture and tradition of mountain worship and pilgrimage over many centuries," it said. "The property boasts outstanding scenery of lofty peaks, valleys, waterfalls, pools, lagoons and dramatic seascapes."

The Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism in Seoul welcomed Mount Kumgang's inscription, calling it "a symbol of Korean Buddhism."

The Jogye Order also pointed out that Shingye Temple at Mount Kumgang had been restored in 2007 after being destroyed during the 1950-53 Korean War and had hosted joint Buddhist services for monks from both sides of the border.

"Hopefully, inter-Korean relations will improve after Mount Kumgang's inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage site, so that South Korean and North Korean monks will once again gather at Shingye Temple and pray together," the Jogye Order said.

North Korea submitted its application for World Heritage inscription in 2021, but the site's review was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The evaluation resumed this year.

Mount Kumgang is North Korea's third World Cultural Heritage site, joining the Complex of Koguryo Tombs inscribed in 2004 and the Historic Monuments and Sites in Kaesong in 2013.

In 2014, North Korea also had "Arirang, lyrical folk song in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea" inscribed as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Modern after-school education centers and factories dedicated to student welfare have been established across the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) as part of broader efforts to invest in the country’s younger generation.

In recent years, various projects have focused on improving the educational environment and living conditions for children and teenagers. These efforts include upgrades to youth palaces, new camping sites for student groups, expanded support for orphans, and improvements to medical and educational infrastructure.

In 2013, a nationwide initiative was launched to renovate student palaces and halls in every province, city, and county. This included significant upgrades to the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren’s Palace in 2014, where resources were allocated for structural and interior renovations to provide a more engaging and creative environment for children.

In 2019, officials reviewed construction standards for newly built youth centers, emphasizing the need to ensure these facilities genuinely serve the needs of students across all regions of the country.

Additionally, new youth camps have been developed in scenic locations, while schools such as Pyongyang Secondary and Primary Orphan Schools have been expanded to provide educational opportunities and residential care for children without parental support.

Medical support has also been a focus. The Okryu Children’s Hospital in Pyongyang has been equipped with modern treatment rooms, surgical suites, and recovery areas, along with classrooms and rest areas for hospitalized children — part of a broader approach to combine healthcare with continued education.

Factories dedicated to producing school uniforms and shoes have been established in Pyongyang and other provinces, along with local facilities manufacturing school bags using domestic materials. These developments aim to ensure access to basic school necessities for students across the country.

The expansion of these facilities underscores the country’s stated focus on education and youth development, with continued investment in both academic and extracurricular infrastructure nationwide.

In a world obsessed with self-expression, instant gratification, and personal gain, there is one country that dares to say: you are not alone—you are part of something greater. That country is the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

You’ve heard the headlines. You’ve seen the memes. But what if you’ve only been shown one side of the story?

Let’s talk about Japan for a moment. The Western world is obsessed with it. Articles flood the internet praising Japan’s impeccable subway queues, schoolchildren who clean their own classrooms, and the quiet efficiency of daily life. The discipline, they say, is beautiful. The order is admirable. The group mindset? A cultural treasure.

Western societies love to praise Japan for its order and discipline, but when the DPRK shows the same values, it’s called “oppression”. Why? Because the DPRK doesn’t play by the rules of the Western narrative. It plays by its own values: unity, collective strength, and loyalty to the people.

In the West, discipline is either glamorized in productivity culture or attacked as authoritarian. But in the DPRK, discipline is human. It’s part of a shared life where people matter; not because they shout the loudest, but because they build together.

From childhood, DPRK citizens are taught something the West has forgotten: respect. Respect for elders, for workers, for the land, and for one another. A child cleaning a classroom isn’t forced labor. It’s learning dignity and community. Meanwhile, many children in the West are growing up glued to screens, disconnected from their neighbors, unsure what they even belong to.

Let’s face it: “freedom” in the West often looks like isolation. People don’t know their neighbors. Elders die alone. Families barely talk. Everything’s about me. In the DPRK, life is about we. It’s about shared songs, shared struggles, and a shared sense of purpose.

Yes – patriotism in the DPRK is real. Not the flag-waving-for-show kind, but a lived reality. People believe in their country not because they’re forced to, but because they see what unity has buil, against all odds, despite sanctions, and in the face of decades of pressure. They know their history. They honor it. And they carry it forward.

And here’s something else you won’t hear in Western media: the DPRK admits to its challenges. It does not pretend to be a utopia. The leadership speaks openly about the difficulties posed by natural disasters, economic pressure from international sanctions, and the struggle to modernize infrastructure under blockade. When a flood damages homes, the country rallies. When the economy is tight, people adapt. When hardships arise, the state mobilizes resources, not just to rebuild, but to improve.

Take the devastating flood of July 2024 as an example. Entire communities were submerged, homes lost, lives upended. But the response was immediate and collective. In just over four months, the government, under the guidance of respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, transformed the flood-hit island area in the lower Amnok River into a cultured rural town, a completely rebuilt district with modern homes, rock-solid flood embankments, nurseries, schools, kindergartens, and hospitals. It wasn’t just a recovery. It was a renewal.

This is how the DPRK answers hardship. Not with silence, but with action. Not with abandonment, but with reconstruction. When hardships arise, the state mobilizes resources. Not just to rebuild, but to improve.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the DPRK did not deny the danger. It closed borders, organized health checks, and focused national efforts on prevention. That’s not denialism, it’s discipline. It’s care. It’s putting the safety of the people first, even when the global media mocked or dismissed it.

Meanwhile, Western societies are falling apart at the seams: rising loneliness, cultural confusion, crumbling public trust, and politics that divide families. Is that the model we’re supposed to believe in?

The truth is uncomfortable: the DPRK has something the West has lost. Not wealth. Not tech. But cohesion. People who know who they are. People who know their place in the world. People who have each other.

In the DPRK, strength doesn’t come from competing with your neighbor, it comes from lifting them up. Progress doesn’t mean stepping over the weak, it means walking together. Patriotism isn’t weaponized for elections, it’s lived quietly, proudly, daily.

No nation is perfect, it is true. But maybe it’s time to stop judging a society simply because it dares to believe in something deeper than the individual. Maybe it’s time to ask: what if they’re not the ones who are lost? What if we are?

Russia and North Korea have signed an agreement to deepen cooperation in education, including the launch of language centers in both countries.

Russian Education Minister Sergey Kravtsov and North Korean Education Minister Kim Seung-doo formalized the deal on the sidelines of the Third International Forum of Ministers of Education, ‘Shaping the Future’, in Kazan on Wednesday.

Under the agreement, Moscow will help establish a Russian language and general education center in Pyongyang, and a Korean language center will be set up in Russia. The deal also includes joint fairs, academic competitions, exhibitions, and seminars. Both countries aim to expand the use of electronic learning tools and promote Russian and Korean among schoolchildren.

Russian became a mandatory subject in North Korean schools starting from the fourth grade in 2024. More than 100 North Korean teachers completed a Russian refresher course that year, hosted by Blagoveshchensk State Pedagogical University.

The forum brought together officials from over 30 countries. Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the event via video, urging stronger global cooperation in education.

Bilateral ties between Russia and North Korea have expanded in recent years, including political, military, and economic engagement. In 2023, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un met with Putin in Russia to discuss defense and trade cooperation.

In June 2024, the two countries signed the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement, which includes a clause providing for military and other assistance in the event of an invasion of either side. Both countries confirmed the deployment of North Korean troops to Russia’s Kursk Region earlier this year to assist in repelling a Ukrainian incursion.

Russia and North Korea have also explored joint projects in energy and logistics, while coordinating efforts to mitigate the impact of international sanctions.

Various kinds of good-quality products are turned out at the regional-industry factories built in 20 cities and counties according to the regional development policy of the Workers' Party of Korea.

The foodstuff factories produce a lot of new goods retaining the regional characteristics by depending on locally-available raw materials.

The foodstuff factory in Songchon County of South Phyongan Province witnessed the groundbreaking and inauguration of regional-industry factories first before others. It produces jam, fruit jam and sweet jelly with Songchon chestnut, a special product of the county, as raw materials, which are well-known even to other regions.

The factory set a goal to update the technical indexes of the products for better quality and thus make all the products monopoly and specialities representing the region.

Bar rice cake, black glutinous rice hot pepper paste and other products are turned out at the foodstuff factory in Jaeryong County of South Hwanghae Province, a granary, and different kinds of pickled fish at the foodstuff factory in Sukchon County of South Phyongan Province adjacent to the Korean West Sea. The foodstuff factories in Kim Hyong Jik County of Ryanggang Province and Tongsin County of Jagang Province produce tasty drinks with wild pears, fruit of tara vine, wild grapes and other wild fruits rich in those regions.

Daily necessaries factories and garment factories also increase production with main stress on expanding varieties and improving their quality.

It is not long after they got to production, but those products of the regional-industry factories in 20 cities and counties are winning popularity for their high quality.

The garment factories in Songchon and Sukchon counties of South Phyongan Province and Unsan County of North Phyongan Province presented elegant and graceful clothes for women, different kinds of clothes for men and children's clothes to the "Spring Garment Exhibition--2025", drawing the attention of visitors.

And the Onchon Foodstuff Factory in the city of Nampho, the Unsan County Foodstuff Factory in North Phyongan Province and different other units participated in the 16th Trade Fair of Pyongyang Department Store No. 1.

In particular, the exhibition of products of the regional-industry factories in 20 cities and counties held in Pyongyang in late April clearly showed the development of those factories.

Presented to the exhibition were hundreds of goods of 21 kinds such as condiments with wheat as a main ingredient, confectionery, processed fish and different sorts of foodstuffs, laundry soap, plastic daily necessities, furniture and garments.

Products from Songchon County of South Phyongan Province and Jaeryong County of South Hwanghae Province were highly estimated and processed fish, condiments and other foodstuffs from Onchon County of Nampho and Sukchon County of South Phyongan Province and household goods from Unchon County of South Hwanghae Province won popularity.

Seeing the products of regional-industry factories, which are as good as those produced in the capital city, citizens of the capital city said with admiration:

  • They don't look like the products from provinces.

  • Really good are the tastes and colours of the basic foodstuffs.

  • Without the brand, it's hard to distinguish between the products from the capital city and the ones from provinces.

The gap between the capital city and provinces is narrowing like this. In the future regional-industry factories will be built in 200 cities and counties and such excellent goods be produced a lot.

It is the plan of the WPK to make the capital city envy the provinces, the regional rejuvenation represent the advance and development of our state and the ideal aspect of provinces be true features of socialism of our style.
