You make it sound like bad to have a family gang. It has so many uses, great for ilegal stuff, great for polítics, great for business, it is all benefits of controlling up to certain point a large group of people and having a strong link with them.

Last time I mentioned one was my girlfriend of 6 months (at the time) that wanted to come visit. I was in my 20's.
If you going to bully me about my personal life then you don't deserve to hear about it.
If we all told them more about our everyday stuff, then maybe it wouldn't come off as particularly special if you mention a girl's name once
I don’t think moms realize this can go the other way. When I was a kid I learned to just never mention any girl’s name, regardless of the reason.
My mom still does this ... about a girl I went out with in 1987 ... who went back to Belgium afterwards.
