It appears every few times I open the app and the usual android back button doesn't make it go away, and there is no cancel button. What you have to do is toggle the toggle, then the button will change to "do not back up" and then you can press it. It annoys me how easy this makes it to accidentally turn on backup.

I hate this news story. If I wasn't living in this community (Douglas county) I would think it's a good story. However, Douglas county has massive NIMBY policies, including outlawing everything that would allow someone experiencing homelessness anywhere near here. No homeless shelters are legal, no sleeping outside is legal, hell even weed stores are illegal in this massive county, despite it being legal in the majority of the state. Douglas county also created its own health department in protest of mask and vaccine mandates. It's a very affluent deeply conservative pocket in Colorado that makes me sick.

Before I left Reddit, I used a plugin through the api to replace all of my comments with random gibberish and then delete them. Part of this was because (mandatory) fuck spez. But more importantly, it was to protect the anonymity of my account. After years of posting, there is likely enough personal information shared to potentially connect my Reddit habits to my online identity. I wasn't planning on using Reddit again in the future on that account, but I left it open in order to maintain some security control over the account. I'm not really sure what to do at this point because I still consider it a security vector that's a bit concerning. There's no way I can manually edit and delete all of my content with the snail's-pace reddit UI, and I have no ability to assure that my content will remain unavailable or at least not publicly displayed.

And only sometimes.

Before people start asking in the comments, the website is a niche fashion archive.

The most useless calendar widget is made by Apple. I constantly forget that someone’s birthday or something important is coming up later in the week.

Now I understand that you can set up alerts and you can set up reminders for stuff. I also understand that you can choose a different size widget. But depending on the size and the amount of events it’s possible it won’t even show you what’s going on the next day in the larger widget as well.

This is forced me to use third-party widgets to display calendar events for the week on my home screen. I hate it because I have no idea if it’s stealing my data.

Bonus Edit! The large widget fails to show you what’s happening today!

There is no reason to require this setting for users who aren’t posting live videos.

Believe I also turned off all "promo" emails and communications of any sort in the settings while i did have linkedin... thinking about just straight up deleting it now instead of leaving the profile deactivated.

Yeah, for some reason, after the newest UI update, changing the volume from another device is broken... AGAIN. Good thing I use spotify like that only 90% of the time.

I sure do love using services I pay for...

That's a rhetorical question, in case there's any doubt. I know the exact what and why of their bullshit.

As a general rule of thumb, I don't set it for the regular 15 minute increments, because it probably won't go off. Today, I set it for 10:37 and it went off at 10:46! 😠

I got a new printer. Auto-discovered, added, and prints fine from Windows in 2 minutes. Auto discovered, added, and prints fine from OSX in 30 seconds. Auto-discovered and added on Linux, but trying to print results in "printer is unreachable at this time" - even after 50 re-installs, different configs, different drivers, different protocols.

I recognized that some computers were on different subnets, but couldn't figure out a pattern. It turns out that the printer has a setting called "Restricted Server List" and the default setting is null. Here's its description in the admin interface: "Comma-delimited list of IP addresses that are allowed to make TCP connections. Example: 157.184.0.0/24. where 0 is a wildcard and /24 is the network prefix."

It also has a setting called "Restricted Server List Options", set to block all ports by default. Here's its description: "By default, addresses not in the restricted server list will have all access blocked. When Block Printing Only is selected, addresses not in the restricted sever list will be blocked from printing only. When Block Printing and HTTP Only is selected, addresses not in the restricted server list will be blocked from printing and HTTP. "

Admin interface doesn't say this anywhere, but the default setting of no restricted servers apparently allows access from other networks, but not from the same network as the printer. I set the restricted servers to "192.168.132.0/24" and then I could access the printer admin web page and print to the printer from my Linux box, but not from any of the computers that were working before. So I set it to "192.168.0.0/16" and every computer on all subnets in my house can print and access the printer admin.

The default setting of no restricted servers was extremely non-intuitive in that it actually only restricted servers on the same subnet. And there was no such documentation.

What a crappy waste of 7 frickin' hours!

Every day, we work to make our platform the best it can be, which includes regularly revisiting our terms and policies (also known as our House Rules) to make sure they meet the needs of our growing community and allow us to continue to support you. Today, we’re sharing a few updates that go into effect on September 15, 2024.

We’ve made some changes to our dispute resolution clause (section 11) for users in North and South America, with updates to our arbitration procedures for smaller matters and for coordinated or “mass” arbitrations (with 25 or more claimants). We have also updated the choice of law that’s applicable to the Terms. As before, the arbitration agreement includes a class action and jury waiver, which means we’ll be resolving most disputes in private, individual arbitration, and not in court. Please read this section carefully. We’ve added which entity acts as the merchant of record, depending on a buyer’s currency and location of your payment instrument.

So, if you're upset at all you can't sue, you can't go to the courts, you have to sit in a an arbitration with someone we choose who (trust us) won't be biased.

To add in, an annoyance for sure:

Effective July 29, our Adult Nudity and Sexual Content Policy introduces more rigorous guidelines regarding our prohibitions of nude or sexual content, as well as how to appropriately list certain mature content.

Edit:

The poll stopped me in my tracks but it's actually even worse.

It should not take this long to get to imdb

Edit2: didn't even realize it thinks I'll "love it" based on things I look up. I don't think I'd like it.

Edit³: IMDb was the example I used without thinking. I'm aware that there's a link to it in the top card. It's the other web results that I don't already know about that I'd like to see. I now know there's a hidden "web" tab. There's also https://www.google.com/search?udm=14&q=example` but it's still mildly infuriating that you have to know about these things to get the basic results we expected for years.

No, it's not phishing, it's legit, the header match with google and the link goes to https://accounts.google.com/AccountChooser/signinchooser?continue=https%3A%2F%2Fadmin.google.com%2Fac%2Fac%2Falert%2Fdetails%3FalertId%3D3...

Why not just write the message there instead of letting me login to watch the important notification?????????????????
