An adaptation of Peter Brown's award-winning, #1 New York Times bestseller, THE WILD ROBOT is an epic adventure staring Academy Award® winner Lupita Nyong'o (Us, the Black Panther franchise) as Roz, a robot that is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must adapt to the harsh surroundings. Gradually Roz starts building relationships with the animals on the island, including a clever fox voiced by Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us, The Mandalorian), and becomes the adoptive parent of an orphaned gosling named Brightbill voiced by Kit Connor (Ready Player One, Heartstopper). THE WILD ROBOT is a powerful story about self-discovery, a thrilling examination of the bridge between technology and nature, and a moving exploration of what it means to be alive and connected to all living things.

Directed by three-time Academy Award® nominee Chris Sanders (Lilo & Stitch, The Croods), THE WILD ROBOT features an incredible supporting voice cast alongside Nyong'o, Pascal and Connor, including Catherine O'Hara (Schitt's Creek, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice), Bill Nighy (Love Actually, Rango), Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Fall Guy), Mark Hamill (Star Wars franchise), Matt Berry ("The IT Crowd", "What We Do in the Shadows") and Ving Rhames (Mission Impossible franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2). Showcasing music by Emmy® and Grammy® nominated composer and Oscar® winner Kris Bowers, the film also boasts two original songs by Grammy®-winning singer-songwriter and music sensation Maren Morris.

This summer, the epic studio disaster movie returns with an adrenaline-pumping, seat-gripping, big-screen thrill ride that puts you in direct contact with one of nature's most wondrous---and destructive---forces.

From the producers of the Jurassic, Bourne and Indiana Jones series comes Twisters, a current-day chapter of the 1996 blockbuster, Twister. Directed by Lee Isaac Chung, the Oscar® nominated writer-director of Minari, Twisters stars Golden Globe nominee Daisy Edgar-Jones (Where the Crawdads Sing, Normal People) and Glen Powell (Anyone But You, Top Gun: Maverick) as opposing forces who come together to try to predict, and possibly tame, the immense power of tornadoes.

Edgar-Jones stars as Kate Cooper, a former storm chaser haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado during her college years who now studies storm patterns on screens safely in New York City. She is lured back to the open plains by her friend, Javi (Golden Globe nominee Anthony Ramos, In the Heights) to test a groundbreaking new tracking system. There, she crosses paths with Tyler Owens (Powell), the charming and reckless social-media superstar who thrives on posting his storm-chasing adventures with his raucous crew, the more dangerous the better.

As storm season intensifies, terrifying phenomena never seen before are unleashed, and Kate, Tyler and their competing teams find themselves squarely in the paths of multiple storm systems converging over central Oklahoma in the fight of their lives.

Twisters features an exciting new cast, including Nope's Brandon Perea, Sasha Lane (American Honey), Daryl McCormack (Peaky Blinders), Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Nik Dodani (Atypical) and Golden Globe winner Maura Tierney (Beautiful Boy).

From Amblin Entertainment, Twisters is directed by Lee Isaac Chung and is produced by Oscar® nominee Frank Marshall (Jurassic and Indiana Jones franchises) and by Patrick Crowley (Jurassic and Bourne franchises). The screenplay is by Mark L. Smith, writer of the Best Picture nominee The Revenant. Twisters will be distributed by Universal Pictures domestically and by Warner Bros. Pictures internationally.

Special Features and Technical Specs:

  • DOLBY VISION/HDR PRESENTATION OF THE FILM
  • DOLBY ATMOS AUDIO TRACK
  • FEATURE COMMENTARY WITH DIRECTOR LEE ISAAC CHUNG
  • GAG REEL
  • DELETED SCENES
  • TRACKING THE FRONTS: THE PATH OF TWISTERS -- Trace the trajectory of TWISTERS from its earliest inception to production and get to know the cast as they lead this look into creating their characters, using science to add authenticity, and working through extreme weather wreaking havoc on set.
  • INTO THE EYE OF THE STORM -- Discover how TWISTERS blends practical and visual effects to turn nature's most destructive forces into entertaining thrills.
  • GLEN POWELL: ALL ACCESS -- Glen Powell provides a private tour of a day in his life on the TWISTERS
  • FRONT SEAT TO A CHASE -- Strap in with the cast and professional storm chasers as they brave the elements to track tornados in Oklahoma.
  • VOICE OF A VILLAIN* -- Hear the creation of the film's deafening howls with a seat in the studio where the audio team mixes unexpected sounds to give the storms a new dimension of depth.
  • TRICKED-OUT TRUCKS -- Buckle up for a wild ride in the film's custom vehicles fitted with unique features ranging from rocket launchers to advanced radar tech.
  • Optional English, French Canadian, Latin American Spanish subtitles for the main feature

I'm assuming those extra features will only run for about ten minutes each. Sadly we don't get massive making of documentaries anymore. However, I am pleasantly surprised to see an audio commentary, want expecting that.

For reasons often speculated about but never formally confirmed by the studio itself, Disney has released the vast majority of its films on 4K Blu-ray disc mastered in only the ‘basic’ HDR10 high dynamic range format, rather than the popular premium Dolby Vision format. This is about to change, though, with Disney confirming to me that starting with “Deadpool & Wolverine” and followed shortly after by “Alien: Romulus”, Dolby Vision can be expected to turn up on most if not all of its future 4K Blu-ray releases.

This really is big news for home cinema fans. Dolby Vision adds extra scene by scene image data to HDR video streams, typically helping compatible displays deliver more dynamic, balanced and more accurate HDR pictures than they can achieve by applying their own ‘tone mapping’ systems to relatively basic HDR10 feeds. So Disney not including Dolby Vision masters on any of its 4K Blu-ray releases—aside from titles overseen by James Cameron—since 2018’s “The Last Jedi” has long been a source of frustration to AV fans who, not unreasonably, want the premium home entertainment format to deliver the very best AV experience.

Adding to the frustration about Disney not including Dolby Vision on the vast majority of its 4K Blu-ray releases for the past six years is the way the studio has typically provided Dolby Vision with its streaming masters. Including those provided on its own Disney+ streaming service.

...

Disney didn’t confirm to me the exact reason for its Dolby Vision change of heart when it comes to forthcoming 4K Blu-ray discs. It may simply be the brand responding at last to years of customer demand, but I suspect it more likely has something to do with the deal Disney struck with Sony back in February where the latter will take over production of Disney’s physical media releases.

...

It might be nice if Disney also started using 100GB (rather than 66GB) discs more routinely for its 4K Blu-ray releases now that they’re going to include Dolby Vision masters, but for the most part I’m pretty content to just take this new development for the win that it is.

GUESS WHAT'S ON THE MENU? YOU ARE!

The Krites have landed! Carnivorous creatures from outer space! Vicious vermin with very sharp teeth! The beloved sci-fi/comedy-horror franchise makes its UK Blu-ray debut in this special edition box set from Arrow Video.

A smart homage to 1950's B-movies, Critters sees a group of small but toothy extra terrestrials escape from an alien prison and land in small-town America with two shape-shifting bounty hunters in hot pursuit. Directed by Stephen Herek (Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure) and starring genre stalwarts Dee Wallace (The Howling) and M. Emmet Walsh (Blood Simple), the film was a smash-hit on home video, launching a franchise for the ravenous furry fiends. Two years later, Critters 2: The Main Course sees the Krites come back for seconds as leftover eggs hatch and attack the rural town of Grover's Bend. Directed by Mick Garris (Sleepwalkers) with a script co-written by David Twohy (Pitch Black), Critters 2 is one big ball of toothy delight.

Celebrated horror author and screenwriter David J. Schow (The Crow) comes aboard for Critters 3, bringing the Krites to the big city. Marking the feature film debut of none other than Leonardo DiCaprio (Django Unchained), it was shot simultaneously with the darker, less comedic Critters 4, in which the ferocious furballs battle series stalwart Charlie (Don Opper, Android) in outer space, featuring a cast that includes Angela Bassett (Strange Days) and Brad Dourif (Child's Play).

A four course feast of fun, fur, fear and fangs, served with a platter of new and archive extras to whet your appetite! Go on, get stuck in!

THE FUTURE ISN’T BIG ENOUGH FOR THE BOTH OF THEM! Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes go head-to-head in this classic sci-fi/action blockbuster from Joel Silver, the producer of Die Hard and The Matrix. In 2032, arch criminal Simon Phoenix (Snipes) awakens from a 35-year deep freeze in CryoPrison to find a world where crime is almost non-existent – a serene utopia ripe for the taking. With the police no longer equipped to deal with his 90s-style brutality, they revive ‘Demolition Man’ Sgt. John Spartan (Stallone), the no-holds-barred police officer unjustly sentenced to CryoPrison who originally took Phoenix down. Old-school cop against old-school criminal, settling their scores on the streets of San Angeles? The future won’t know what’s hit it. The details of Freddy Krueger’s ratty red-and-green sweater and knife-tipped glove will look extra horrific when A Nightmare on Elm Street, Wes Craven‘s 1984 slasher classic, arrives on 4K UHD just in time for a spooky season re-watch. To mark the occasion, io9 got to speak with its stars, Heather Langenkamp (who plays smart yet sleepy final girl Nancy Thompson) and Robert Englund (the dream demon himself), about their experiences making the film—and whether they’d be willing to get back in character again.

Cheryl Eddy, io9: Which scene in A Nightmare on Elm Street do you think will benefit the most from the 4K UHD upgrade?

Robert Englund: Here’s the thing. What we have to remember—and it’s difficult for me because I always wanted to be a movie actor—I always imagined Nightmare on Elm Street playing in a movie theater. But most of our fans discovered this film as part of the video generation. So they saw it less than perfect. Their memories of it are less than perfect. They have great memories of sharing it with mom and dad, or a stepdad or a step-mom, or brothers and sisters, you know, fresh from the video store, running home with a copy. But a lot of them also saw old, dog-eared copies that had been lying around in the bookshelf for a while or passed around the dormitory. This is an opportunity to see this better than Heather and I’ve ever seen it. To see it absolutely pristine and enhanced, you know, ultra high def 4K. I just had this experience with the old Alfred Hitchcock film Rear Window; it was mind blowing to see it in my living room, that perfect and wonderful. And I’m so looking forward to this. And there’s some new stuff [in the “uncut” version, included in the remastered release along with the theatrical version], right?

...

A Nightmare on Elm Street hits 4K Ultra HD on Digital October 1; it will be available on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play, Fandango at Home, and more. The Blu-ray 4K UHD arrives October 15. The 4K UHD remaster includes both the theatrical and uncut versions; the latter features eight additional seconds of unrated footage.

Other previously released special features included are as follows, according to a Warner Bros. press release:

  • Ready Freddy Focus Points
  • Commentary with Wes Craven, Robert Englund, Heather Langenkamp, Ronnie Blakely, Robert Shaye, and Sara Risher.
  • Commentary with Wes Craven, Heather Langenkamp, John Saxon, and Jacques Haitkin.
  • Alternate endings
  • The House that Freddy Built: The Legacy of New Line Horror
  • Never Sleep Again: A Nightmare on Elm Street
  • Night Terrors: The Origins of Wes Craven’s Nightmares

Her mission is to find the missing daughter of Atlas, the universe's most powerful SOB. Kevin Smith's The 4:30 Movie set for November 4K and Blu-ray release

Kevin Smith's sixteenth feature film, The 4:30 Movie, is coming to 4K and Blu-ray in November, including an Amazon exclusive steelbook

The 4:30 Movie, the sixteenth feature film from director Kevin Smith, received a theatrical release on September 13th, and now it has been revealed that the movie is coming to 4K and Blu-ray on November 5th! Copies of the physical media versions of the movie are available for pre-order on Amazon -- including an Amazon-exclusive steelbook edition where the case is designed to look like a large VHS tape and the discs look like VHS tape spools! A fitting design for a movie that's set in 1986. Images of the steelbook design can be seen right here:

The 4:30 Movie is a coming-of-age comedy that follows three sixteen-year-old friends who spend their Saturdays sneaking into movies at the local multiplex. But when one of the guys also invites the girl of his dreams to see the latest comedy, each of the teens will learn something serious about life and love before the credits roll.

Austin Zajur (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark), Nicholas Cirillo (Outer Banks), and Reed Northrup (High Maintenance) play the sixteen year old friends, with Siena Agudong (Resident Evil) as the dream girl. Ken Jeong (The Hangover), Genesis Rodriguez (Tusk), Justin Long (Barbarian), Sam Richardson (Veep), Jason Lee (Almost Famous), Rachel Dratch (I Love My Dad), Kate Micucci (The Big Bang Theory), Adam Pally (Sonic the Hedgehog), Harley Quinn Smith (Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood), Jason Biggs (American Pie), and Method Man (How High) are also in the cast.

The 4:30 Movie was filmed at Smodcastle Cinemas in New Jersey, a theatre Smith now co-owns and used to hang out in every weekend when he was a teenager. Liz Destro, Josh Bachove, and Jordan Monsanto produced, with Bill Bromiley, Shanan Becker, and Jonathan Saba executive producing.

The back of the 4K release reveals that bonus features include an audio commentary with Kevin Smith and a making of featurette, as well as the trailer.

This film had a very limited release in the UK, you had to be either in Birmingham or London at the right time. Looks like I'll be catching the streaming version next month. Looking forward to it!

Cannibal! The Musical is making its debut on Blu-ray from Refuse Films. Shot on 16mm film and edited on video, Cannibal! The Musical is presented in high definition for the first time on Blu-ray.

Written and directed by Trey Parker (co-creator of South Park), this release is limited to only 3,000 units, playable worldwide and includes an exclusive slipcover featuring the original 1997 key art.

Brand new special features include new audio commentary, cast interviews, never-before-seen deleted scenes approved by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, over three hours of raw BTS footage, the UK cut of Alferd Packer: The Musical, plus hours of archival material.

Producer Jason McHugh confirms that the original 16mm footage of Cannibal! The Musical was lost somewhere in Colorado in the late 90s. Refuse Films uncovered the original Betacam master tape from the Troma archives in New York.

Cannibal! The Musical has been blown up from the original master tape and manually remastered without AI technology. The new and exclusive Refuse Films high-definition transfer is approved by Cannibal! The Musical’s director of photography, Robert Muratore, and remastered by Mark Brindle of UK post-production company Maniac Films.

...

Refuse Films is also excited to announce the launch of its new boutique Blu-ray sub-label, the TromArchive Collection. This label intends to release 50 years of Tromatic excess from Troma’s film archives to the Blu-ray format.

In addition to the world Blu-ray premiere of Trey Parker's Cannibal! The Musical (1993), Series 1 of the TromArchive Collection, features special editions of Troma Team classics The Toxic Avenger (1984) and Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD (1990), both titles directed by Troma co-founders Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz.

Each TromArchive Collection Blu-ray title is limited to 3,000 units, playable worldwide and features an exclusive slipcover featuring original Tromatic poster art and new sleeve designs by renowned graphic illustrator Mila K.

edit: Cannibal! The Musical is also being released by Vinegar Syndrome.
