Hi Lemmy!

My partner and I are moving from the US to the EU soon. We both have gaming PCs but they're a bit older, so we're thinking it's a great time to sell them, taking the SSDs, and buying new components there to avoid shipping them.

Any suggestions surrounding it? Maybe there's a good way to pay a little and backup the whole SSDs to the cloud?

I know it's not strictly gaming related but it sorta is? Sorry if this is inappropriate for the community

A new report says Unity is cutting around 1,800 jobs, or about 25 percent of the its employees, according to a regulatory filing and internal company memo obtained by Reuters on Monday.

This is reportedly the largest round of layoffs in the software company’s history—far larger than what happened in November of last year—and it will be completed by the end of March. Unity has gone through three prior rounds of layoffs within the last 12 months.

“We are … reducing the number of things we are doing in order to focus on our core business and drive our long-term success and profitability,” interim CEO Jim Whitehurst wrote in an internal memo obtained by Reuters. The memo was sent to all Unity employees on January 8.

Lyrics:

And you may find yourself
Ordering a PS5
And you may find yourself
Paying for PS Plus
And you may find yourself
Buying a large 4K TV
And you may find yourself in a beautiful house
With a beautiful entertainment unit
And you may ask yourself
Well, where are the games?

Letting the games go by
All exclusives have moved on
Letting the games go by
All the games are on PC
Into the shop again
After the money’s gone
Why did I buy this thing
PS5 Has No Games

And you may ask yourself
How do I work this?
And you may ask yourself
Where are all those franchises?
And you may tell yourself
This is not my PS2
And you may tell yourself
This isn’t even my PS4

Letting the games go by
All exclusives have moved on
Letting the games go by
All the games are on PC
Into the shop again
After the money’s gone
Why did I buy this thing
PS5 Has No Games

Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was

Studios bleeding
And studios closing
Concord cost $400 million?
Horizon remake
Still no bloodborne
Forspoken

Letting the games go by
All exclusives have moved on
Letting the games go by
All the games are on PC
Into the shop again
Into the bargain bin
Under unwanted ports
There are no games to be found

Letting the games go by
All exclusives have moved on
Letting the games go by
All the games are on PC
Into the shop again
After the money’s gone
Why did I buy this thing
PS5 Has No Games

You may ask yourself
Why is there a PS5 Pro?
You may ask yourself
Where did that disk drive go to?
And you may ask yourself
What's the difference? It looks the same!
And you may say to yourself
My god, concord cost $400 million

Letting the games go by
All exclusives have moved on
Letting the games go by
All the games are on PC
Into the shop again
Into the bargain bin
Under unwanted ports
There’s no new games to be found

Letting the games go by
All exclusives have moved on
Letting the games go by
All the games are on PC
Into the shop again
After the money’s gone
Why did I buy this thing
PS5 Has No Games

Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Look where my games were
Games aren't holding up
Live services everywhere
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Letting the games go by
Same as it ever was
Here's Last of Us Part II again
Here comes Last of Us Part II

When Mats Steen died from a muscle-wasting disorder, his parents believed that his life had been a tragically lonely one — until hundreds of emails from strangers arrived. It turns out that he’d found friendship and even romance in a gaming community

Their son had lived by another name. To his family he had simply been Mats. But within World of Warcraft he had existed for years as a charismatic adventurer named “Ibelin”, a strapping swashbuckler with auburn hair tied back in a ponytail and a butch goatee beard. And it was as this digital alter ego that Mats had thrived in a way his family had never appreciated. They had misunderstood what World of Warcraft really was. It had seemed to them like a frenetic action game of monster-bashing and point-scoring. To Mats and the many people he played with – the people now emailing Robert and Trude – it was something far more profound: an immersive world built on social interactions, friendships and shared storytelling. Robert smiles. “This window started to open up to us that let us see he had another life besides his physical life. And that it had been so rich, so big and so full of contentment.”

VR is so 90s (discuss.tchncs.de)

Random trivia; VR is so 90s 🤪 - this is a photo of an offer for a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VFX1_Headgear for ~500USD in 1997. Apparently it was compatible with games like Mech Warrior 2 and did already feature stuff like head tracking for compatible games.

I really don't care about MMOs, especially not Korean MMOs, but this is a very entertaining read.

I know LazerPig and his whole persona might be a bit of an acquired taste, but he's making some excellent points here, especially near the end, when he goes on a bit of a deep dive into the corporate culture of gaming's favorite punching bag right now.

It couldn't happen to a better publisher!

This is what happens when you continually release unfinished buggy games that are just copy paste jobs from years prior.

I recently found a list of "Woke" Video Games on Steam and I thought it'd be pretty funny to check out it and I was not disappointed. This list of over 1,400 games contains some of the most insane takes I've ever heard.
