In February, the World Health Organization's European office declared: "Clear and prominent health warning labels on alcohol, which include a specific cancer warning, are a cornerstone of the right to health."

In a report, it urged governments to introduce them to help reduce alcohol-related harm and raise awareness of the link between drinking and cancer.

Dr Gauden Galea, a WHO adviser, said in the report that policymakers should "resist all the pressure that will inevitably come from commercial actors" who claim such warnings do not work.

The collapse of water systems in Gaza is threatening the territory with devastating drought as well as hunger, Unicef has warned, amid fresh reports of casualties among desperate Palestinians seeking aid.

On Friday at least 25 people awaiting aid trucks were killed by Israeli fire south of Netzarim in central Gaza, according to local health authorities.

More than 100 Palestinians have died in recent days while trying either to reach aid distribution points managed by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a secretive US- and Israel- backed organisation that recently started to hand out food in the territory, or to offload the limited number of UN and commercial vehicles carrying flour and some other basics.

Canada’s Liberal government is poised to pass controversial legislation on Friday that aims to kick-start “nation building” infrastructure projects but has received widespread pushback from Indigenous communities over fears it tramples on their constitutional rights.

On its final day of sitting before breaking for summer, parliament is expected to vote on Bill C-5. The legislation promised by Mark Carney, the prime minister, during the federal election, is meant to strengthen Canada’s economy amid a trade war launched by Donald Trump.

The bill removes interprovincial trade barriers and aims to prioritize infrastructure projects, such as energy pipelines and mines deemed to be in the national interest.

Danish shipping and logistics behemoth Maersk has temporarily halted operations at Israel's Haifa port, amid the country's escalating conflict with Iran.

In a statement released on Friday, Maersk said it decided to suspend operations after “careful analysis of threat risk reports in the context of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, specifically regarding the potential risks of calling Israeli ports and the ensuing implications for the safety of our vessel crews”.

Maersk said it was in close contact with customers "impacted by this decision and are working to provide alternative transport solutions to minimise disruption".

The company said it was continuing to operate at Ashdod and that it had not experienced any other issues in its other operations in the region.

The Western NATO doctrine has proven ineffective in modern conditions - this is one of the reasons for Ukraine's failure on the battlefield.

  • The "Air Land Battle" concept developed for the Cold War does not work against an enemy that has artillery with a range of 70 km and drones flying deep into the rear.
  • Ukraine tried to act according to NATO regulations - and abandoned them after heavy losses during 2023 offensive
  • During recent exercises in the Baltics, the French military cleared trenches "head-on", with small arms - w/o the use of drones.
  • At the same time, Russia uses drones at all levels - from recon to pinpoint target designation.
  • The Russian army quickly adapts to new conditions and relied on technology.
  • NATO countries are stuck in the past era and are not capable of rapid adaptation.
  • Russia is outplaying them both in the tactical and technologically, which calls into question the combat capability of the entire “alliance of the willing”

The Muslim Brotherhood, one of the most powerful political entities in the Middle East, has rallied around Iran in the wake of Israel’s devastating strikes on the country and urged disparate Muslim groups to unite and “confront the Zionist entity”.

In a letter addressed to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Wednesday, the acting head of the movement, Salah Abdel Haq, said his group expressed “full support” for the Islamic Republic as Israel’s assault stretched into a second week.

"The poll also found that nearly two thirds of Britons (65 percent) want the UK to implement the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he were to visit the UK."

According to the NGOs, the findings show “growing public pressure for legal accountability and a decisive government response”.
