Things to think about and lessons to learn.

I realized I interacted / posted / commented less and less on reddit these last couple of years. Couldn't even tell you why exactly. Now I've been here for a week and, I don't know, I just like interacting again... Hope it stays like this for a while :)

Something that I really appreciate after moving here from Reddit: I can finally edit titles!

No more having to delete and re-post when I notice a typo. No more having to endure the embarrassment when I don't notice one until after the comments have already started.

It's a small thing, but a relief nevertheless.

This was posted some weeks ago, but I feel it might be useful for many folks these days, so reposting the link here.

Is this new to post-blackout reddit is or has it been this way for a while. Top post of r/all is a tweet from like 2 years ago about a "current event" that no one has talked about since then and 100% of the comments are talking about this like this topic is the focus of today's or any recent time's 24 hour news cycle. Nearly 30K upvotes. 100 comments. Feels like ai/bot cosplaying what an actual hot reddit post would be like but in a world without people.

Protests on the social platform have entered a new phase, with users shirking the platform’s NSFW content rules en masse. The development has some media buyers on high alert, experts say.

Reddit protest by its community moderators has impacted user engagements, traffic and visits to its ad portal since its beginning on June 12.

most of the time you'll be talking to a bot there without even realizing. they're gonna feed you products and ads interwoven into conversations, and the AI can be controlled so its output reflects corporate interests. advertisers are gonna be able to buy access and run campaigns. based on their input, the AI can generate thousands of comments and posts, all to support your corporate agenda.

for example you can set it to hate a public figure and force negative commentary into conversations all over the site. you can set it to praise and recommend your latest product. like when a pharma company has a new pill out, they'll be able to target self-help subs and flood them with fake anecdotes and user testimony that the new pill solves all your problems and you should check it out.

the only real humans you'll find there are the shills that run the place, and the poor suckers that fall for the scam.

it's gonna be a shithole.

Hey all, I want to give you an update on what is happening with Narwhal. I've been talking with Reddit a lot about the API changes and what it will mean for Narwhal.

Narwhal is not going anywhere on July 1st. It will continue to operate as it has for many years (except it will not have ads anymore). Over the next few months, I am going to be adding subscriptions into Narwhal 2. The subscriptions will be there to cover the cost of using the Reddit API. I am still figuring out what to do for heavy power users, but there may be a base plan which includes X number of API requests/month and you can top up your balance with another purchase. The subscription will likely be in the $4-$7 range to start. It may change based on total usage of the app (either up or down) to cover the costs of using the reddit API.

Yes, this means Narwhal 2 is finally going to see the light of day. Is it perfect? No. Is it as finished as I wanted it to be before I released it? No. But it makes the most sense to put subscriptions in Narwhal 2 instead of the current app.

TLDR; Narwhal is not going anywhere on July 1st. Subscriptions will be coming over the next few months.

Hey all, I recently left reddit like many of you. I have a question regarding lemmy and the fediverse on the history of banning and defederation. I have noticed several posts calling for varying communities to be disconnected. were these removal requests as prevalent before the mass migration? Usually I am all for communities existsting in their own spaces, barring illegal content. I am hoping that the new users are coming here with the intent to learn how this community works, before we try to remake the community we just left.

Today I saw a handful of posts from folks who were trying to delete all their content from reddit, including another person who failed and now can't delete their content after their account was deleted.

I am thinking of two options here.

First, as per the title, we can sticky the best articles made in this magazine, so the first thing a new joiner sees is the warning about the 1000 index limit and the second on how to overcome it.

The other way would be to stick an article referring folks to a new magazine. If you look at the first article ever to this magazine from the owner, https://kbin.social/m/RedditMigration/t/12303/Welcome-to-RedditMigration , this magazine was meant to cover all things, news as well as technical questions.

However, I fear that the high volume of important news is drowning out the technical aspects. Therefore, it may make sense to copy or link some content into a separate magazine so it is easier to find and to refer to.

Not to split the magazine, more like a BestOfRedditMiggirationTechnicalAnswers if that makes sense.

Thoughts folks? Especially interested in hearing about this idea from the mods @tchambers & @Shortcake

I have been trying to avoid Reddit. However, I still often end up being forced to click on a link to a post while searching for something specific. It is a hassle to manually change the link to libreddit or teddit everytime.

For my own purposes, I wrote a userscript to redirect any Reddit link automatically to Libreddit. Since, I thought I should post it here since someone could find it useful, and many of you prefer using Teddit, I also made a Teddit version. You should install only one.

Google executives acknowledged this month they need to do a better job surfacing user-generated content after the recent Reddit blackouts.

Title is pretty much it. Woke up this morning to an email in the inbox with a reddit message notification from u/reddit

Your account has been permanently suspended for breaking the rules.

The thing is not only have I not been on reddit since the protest (barring google searches while not signed in on a private browser, for specific questions unfortunately), but it's a lurker account. I have one post from a year ago asking a question, then a few sporadic comments with the last being in April.

I suppose the breakup with Reddit is a mutual thing now lol. Just a very strange scenario.
