My first DIY phone fix made me a self-repair believer
(www.theverge.com)
This is a most excellent place for technology news and articles.
I used to fix phones back in the dumbphone days. Other than needing a special screwdriver, it was extremely straightforward as long as you were careful with the ribbon cables. I guess I don't have anything to add, lol, I was just reminiscing.
I actually still have two of the tiny torx screwdrivers I used to use. They're magic because they seem to fit about every tiny random device I've needed to disassemble and I've had them for 17 years without losing them.
I stopped giving a fuck after my first glued phone repair attempt. Until that point it was kind of fun and very rewarding, and the glued ones are just pure frustration. Big tech won, I don't repair phones any more.
You just need a bit of practice. I also broke the rear glass on my first attempt repairing a glued phone, but it only took until my 3rd attempt to get it done without cracking it.
Try that with the screen at $300 a pop, I got out of the repair biz a few years after glue and large amounts of underfill in weird fucking places started becoming common place...such a pain in the ass!
