Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn. Even if you watch it on a Linux machine.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.

EDIT: I'm picking up on some big time virgin energy from all the people in this thread who think girlsmell is a fetish. Girls smell. If you didn't know that, it's clear the only women you've ever been with were 2D.

PS: If you prefer boysmell that is also very valid, and if you don't like stinky partners at all I want you to know I stand with the ace community and I'm only meaning to make fun of allos.

Oh the times a-coming, but as I only really use my PC for gaming now, I’m holding out for a SteamOS distro.

Same here. The minute I can be confident than my steam collection will run on Linux, I'm switching over.

Have you tried? Because Proton is the miracle people make it up to be.

    [–] SaltSong@startrek.website 1 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I'm not in a position to experiment, but I'm following the lead of a friend who is in such a position, and is far more technical than I am.

I'll ask him about proton. Appreciate the recommend.

Just started using mint. Tell me a game that you're curious about and if I own it I'll try it out.

My current big ones are Windsail, Sunless Sea, Sunless Skies, Stardew, and Traveler's Rest.

Also Star Trek Online, but that's not Steam.

Appreciate any testing you are able to do.

Just downloaded and played stardew for a few. Seems to work fine.

Off the top of my head all but STO will work no issue

ProtonDB says STO is gold rates, but you gotta use the experimental branch. Otherwise, will work pretty flawlessly

PROTONDB is gonna be a great resource: it'll tell you how playable any game is right now using Proton (you can force non steam games to run proton ezpz by launching through steam)

    [–] SaltSong@startrek.website 1 points 1 week ago

Interesting. I may have to start switching over, then.

    [–] zippythezigzag@lemm.ee 1 points 1 week ago

I own Stardew. Ill check out the others and see if I'd like to buy them. I'll do the testing after i get off work tonight and let you know.

Sunless Sea, Sunless Skies and Stardew Valley have native Linux Support. For Stardew, even the third modding API works flawlessly for me.

For the other ones, they are reported to run well on protondb.com, which is a good place to check Linux support (not only for Steam games). The reports there usually also list, which proton version works well.

    I appreciate the info!

Yeah SteamOS is nothing special. Any of the big distros can give you a similarly solid gaming experience these days.
