PieFed seems to be the only fedi software that allows you to automatically receive notifications on a post when you comment on it (which i love!) so I'm wondering if this was something custom you built since no one else has been able to ship this.

There is nothing special or difficult about this functionality, other software could do the same thing, easily. :)

Is there somewhere I could point others to so they could learn from your work? EDIT: Not sure if I'm misunderstanding the notifications, if I keep it on do I get notifications about replies to only my comment or any replies to the thread (which is what I want, like forums did\do)

https://join.piefed.social is the general project hub for PieFed, it has some background and techy blog posts.

Currently the notifications are just replies to only your comment. A more flexible and wide-ranging subscribe-to-anything notification system is a high priority: https://codeberg.org/rimu/pyfedi/issues/20

Awesome, thanks!
