The US intelligence community assesses Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s “viability as a leader” to be “in jeopardy,” according to its annual report on the national security threats facing the United States that was presented to Congress on Monday.

“Distrust of Netanyahu’s ability to rule has deepened and broadened across the public from its already high levels before the war, and we expect large protests demanding his resignation and new elections,” according to the report. “A different, more moderate government is a possibility.”

Wait a minute. So you're telling me bibi was hoping for the good 'ol wartime bump in support and a distraction from his corruption charges and thus may-or-may-not have waved away detailed intelligence reports of an impending attack...?

Color me just shocked.

The attack has benefitted both sides in a very cynical way. Netanyahu's reaction has made Israel much more isolated internationally and if any Palestinians make it through all this, they will be even more likely to support a violent and extremist organization like Hamas.

It's a win-win for Netanyahu and Hamas and a huge lose-lose for both Israelis and Palestinians.
