In the story I remember he just lost all his cash,which went out into circulation and made him even richer. Of course he didn't learn from this and started hoarding the cash again

I read that he invested his lucky dime into the popcorn business of Donald and since he has such a reputation of a sucessfull businessman people fight to buy share into it and he come back to by millionnaire within the hour and soon had many millions in cash again.

If you have connections to wealthy people because of your wealth, there's good chance these people are rather interested in your wealth and power than you. You lose the wealth, they lose interest.

As long as someone is not an absolute asshole to literally everyone, friendships are rarely that shallow. See for example what happened to Europeans that got kicked out of Africa during decolonisation - most lost almost everything they had, but most also ended up exactly on the same step they were in the social ladder in a few years due to the connections they had in the "metropole".
