Former US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller has sparked outrage after saying he believed “without a doubt" that Israel has committed war crimes.

On Monday's episode of Sky News' Trump 100 podcast, Miller, now speaking as a private citizen, said he does not believe Israel is carrying out a genocide, but that it is failing itself as a democracy by not holding soldiers accountable for their actions in Gaza.

He added that there were "disagreements all along the way" on how to handle Israel's war on Gaza. When asked if he believed Israel was committing a genocide in Gaza, Miller replied: “I don’t believe it’s genocide, but I think it is without a doubt true that Israel has committed war crimes.”

The host then pressed on why Miller had publicly denied accusations of war crimes against Israel for more than a year, to which Miller said he was a spokesperson for the US government, not for himself.

“The United States government had not concluded they’ve (Israel) committed war crimes – they still have not concluded that," he said.

Matthew Miller must be held accountable the same as Julius Streicher and Radio Rawanda personnel.

Just highlighting that even the PR people share legal responsibility.

Of course everybody who did nothing but defend israel in Biden administration

I watched almost every press briefing he gave and it was very clear he knew. Hence the 'smirk'. The jackanape treated it like a game coming up with cover stories.

Fun watching Bidens press team suddenly try to do PR to help their images.

Suddenly Jean isn't a dem, both for her book sales and because the dastardly dnc was so mean to Biden after the debate

It's a fucking genocide. You don't need to go in person to know that, but apparently you need more braincells than the entire Trump brain trust has combined. Like, at least 50 of them.

Let's be perfectly clear, this guy was in Biden's administration, not Trump's.
He gave regular press conferences, lying through his teeth to downplay Israel's actions and smugly gaslighting anyone who tried to bring attention to the atrocities that Israel was committing.

Let’s be perfectly clear, this guy was in Biden’s administration, not Trump’s.

This sentence was necessary.

Excuse me, I got my Millers confused. I was thinking of the extra evil ghoul Stephen Miller.

That said, yeah, Biden's administration was awful. But there's awful and then there's malevolent. Don't try and compare the corrupt, incompetent, and evil of the Orange Jackass' people with the regular horrible of the Democratic Party establishment.

[–] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 day ago

Doing mass genocide is definitely malevolent, and people like Matt Miller and Antony Blinken are every bit as evil as Republicans

There's literally an entire Wiki page on the Gaza genocide. i don't get how people can be so willfully blind but it's frustrating as fuck

[–] rumimevlevi@lemmings.world 2 points 1 day ago

I am more mad of the icj

[–] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Miller was in the Biden administration!

Can you people please break out of the Democrats=goodguys mindset.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm not in that mindset. I mistook him for the other Miller, Stephen Miller.

[–] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago

It says Mathew Miller in the title, it has a picture of Mathew Miller, and it refers to his infamous smirking. I'm not sure how you mistook it for Stephen Miller

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world -1 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Yeah, he can’t speak for the State Department. That’s a thing.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

No one was forcing him to smile.

Just like no one's forcing you to defend him.

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 1 day ago

His smile or smirks at genocide related questions was under his control though. He didn't need to get giddy at the thought of Israel committing a genocide at the podium

Yes, obviously. Did you really think this was some kind of gotcha?
