It has a learning curve. It's not particularly hard or anything, but to use it you have to learn literally one thing. No one wants to do that 🙃

Probably because most people got used to going to Twitter and making an account without needing to pick an instance.

I recently started using it. I would say it's not hard but it is different, so you just have to be someone who's open to new ideas. If someone gets frustrated and quits as soon as something is not immediately obvious, it's probably not for them. Sort of like some old people struggle to do basic stuff on computers/smartphones while some are just fine.

It is quite hard, we have a very skewed perspective, because this community is mostly composed of people at least somewhat well versed on technology and more than likely quite enthusiastic about it. But to most people the computer is a tool that you turn on and just do what it's used for doing and that's it, and if something don't work it's quite a problem. And to not enthusiasts the idea of a social media platform that does not have a single unified site or app to make an account and start using is absolute madness, furthermore the app or webapp that you use to use the platform does not allow you to create an account, and finding the instance to create said account can be a daunting task for someone who does not now what they're getting into, so yeah it is a very big departure of what people are used to and it's far from beginner friendly

Before people come telling that things work like that with good reason and cannot work any different, I get it, but if the user experience is not good, and to my eyes the setting up of it is not a good experience(wasn't for me at least), it does not particularly matter if it has good reason for it, it's still not good

Maybe because they’ve forgotten that Twitter also had a learning curve when they first started using it.
