Maybe Martin should actually finish the books he started. My theory is that he wrote himself into a corner and can’t figure out how to finish. There are so many dangling story lines and 2-D story elements that anybody would have a hard time working that frayed knot into a cohesive ending.
I would want nothing for more than for Martin to finish ASOIAF. Unfortunately I think there's a lot of things preventing him from doing so. Wrote himself into a corner, expanded the characters and story too much, let the show beat him to twists he wanted to reveal in the books, the bad ending of the show, the fact he's earned so much money that he can literally do anything he wants including producing new TV shows, his "gardening" nature meaning he goes back and constantly rewrites / scraps stuff he's already written. There are countless reasons why GRRM struggles to write the books.
It does, however, give me a bit of confidence that he's at least somewhat involved with the future HotD story and episodes, and I do believe they will do the story justice!
But yeah ... finish the damn books George.
Oh the books will be finished... As a script put to screen...
