Sync in my opinion provides the most seamless, Reddit-like experience, so naturally, more people will gravitate towards that

I was trying to use connect but sync is just l... Better. It feels the way it should and makes interacting with Lemmy feel familiar. Long love the fediverse.
That's been my experience. I've been using Jerboa, Connect, Liftoff, and Thunder before this, and activity has been slowly increasing over the past few weeks. Sync releases, and activity increased significantly within hours. Also, I have not touched another client since Sync dropped. I appreciate the effort of all of the other developers making Lemmy apps, but Sync is home. Nothing comes close.
I am here because of sync, but I am also confused. I made a .ml account and not a .world account. Does it matter? Could someone tell me the difference? Thanks.
Simple answer is it does not really matter, everything is connected and most things can be reached from anywhere.
Slightly more complex answer: each server instance (e.g. lemmy.ml, lemmy.world, lemm.ee and any others) has its own rules and regulations, dictated by the individual admin(s). You should read them to know what the instance is about, its general philosophy, and if it is a good fit for you. From this also follows the fact that your instance admins can choose to disconnect from other server instances - in that case you can not reach anything from the other instance. An example is many nsfw-free instances disconnecting (βdefederatingβ) from porn instances like lemmynsfw. Or disconnecting from right-wing troll instances.
So, the general answer is it does not matter much, but there is some fine print to it you should be aware of.
It's like having a *@gmail.com vs a *@yahoo.com email address.
Any instance allows you to send/receive email (or that is, browse lemmy).
If your instance goes down for whatever reason, you'll not be able to access that account.
RiF is now completely dead, could browse before without logging in, now can't even browse, could be a big factor.
Aaaaaaand this is how I found out it was released. Thank you.
I'm using it more because of Sync.
Made an account just because Sync makes the experience so much more fluent now.
They finally killed all the third party apps today too. Got to score a cool new username at Lemmy. Bye reddit
π sorry! I'm out of the loop! Who's the developer behind this app? Was it someone that used to make a reddit version of this? Where is the hype coming? Other than that is wonderful to see new tools integrating with lemmy β€β€β€
Greetings! I finally decided to get an account after Voyager came in. I'm glad that there is a noticeable presence after the app went live. It seems like a nice place, so far!
Lemmy will be like Reddit in that there's no way I would use the site without a third party app like Sync.
I'm here just because of sync.
Amazing what a decent UX will do.
Just signed up for lemmy now that sync is live!
I just made another account because my Lemmy.world one wasn't working, so add it for the numbers (?).
Did hold out until sync was released.
Sync does the interface right :)
This is my first comment after leaving Reddit. Liking the way things look so far!
I don't know, but it's certainly a lot more enjoyable and smoother experience.
That's exactly the reason why no reddit alternative will ever have any success without having a great mobile app.
It's a lot easier to browse posts and comment. On other apps I would just crash...
I've been trying to follow, but clearly I missed it - anyone know if there's an iOS client in the works, or will this be Android only?
Don't count on an iOS Sync client.
I don't know what happened but I also see less politics and more interesting topics, which is making me want to vote more let alone to comment more.
