Is it actually down? A friend of mine says he still has access to it. I don't have an Android, do I can't confirm.
Reddit Was Fun
Memorial to "rif is fun for Reddit" Android app, aka "reddit is fun", shut down after June 30, 2023
Bye RIF Thanks for all those years :'-(
Long time BaconReader user. Very disheartening, but hopeful for the alternatives
It started working for me again.. it stopped last night, and didn't work this morning... but now it works..
I'm assuming it's a mistake by Reddit?
Rest in Peace my love.
Most used app on my phone, it will be missed.
I used the official app for the first time today. Boy does it suck! Mobile and RIF is done. How the hell am I going to take a shit again? 10 years of training... I don't know how my bowels will react!
My app is still working as of July 1st when logged out, haven't done any patching or anything. New content is loading.
@talklittle hope this isn't going to incur API charges for you :(
RIF was absolutely the best way, and the one that suited me the most, out of all the apps I tried when I first started trying to user Reddit on my phone. I enjoyed it immensely and I know I could never go back to the crappy official app. Also, the way in which the Reddit owners reacted to the whole issue just made me realize that it's not worth it to continue to use Reddit, specially if my favorite way of accessing the site dies. So my accounts died with RIF and my time on Reddit got to ita end.
Thank you for making such a useful, clean, friendly app freely available for everyone. I'm truly gonna miss it.
Godspeed and thank you. And rest in peace, RIF! You'll always be fun in my heart. 💔
Thank you so much u/talklittle for 10+ years of enjoyment. The thing that stood out about rif was how clean and information dense the list view was. It reminded me of old.reddit where you're looking at a list of posts instead of constantly scrolling like the newer reddit card design. Makes me feel slightly more sane about staring at my phone.
Very excited to see where your future takes you. reddit was always going to fail. Every site or social media network will eventually fail. In its place will fall something else. As ridiculous as your experience has been, perhaps this is for the best.
Good night, sweet prince. You weren't a good app... you were the best.
RIF was my first and only reddit app since I got an android phone in 2015. I used to use a Nokia Lumia so I had a different app before the, can't remember the name, something with bacon in the name.
But 8 years of using reddit on my phone almost exclusively through reddit is fun. Every phone I've had it's occupied the same space, right next to my Firefox. Maybe I'll replace it with a Lemmy app or maybe I'll just keep it there as a memory. I'm still not sure what I'll do about reddit in general. I've been pretty good at keeping away, but occasionally I'll find myself going back to it out of a deep habit. Maybe RIF not working will break that finally.
RIP RIF :-/
