> Send bombs to Israel

> They use them

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 17 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

There's only one real way to discourage Israel here:

  1. Tell them how what they've done is a bit much
  2. Insist to everyone else that they did nothing wrong
  3. Come down hard on anyone who suggests that perhaps it's not nice to keep bombing the refugees they're starving
  4. Reaffirm your unswerving commitment to backing Israel up no matter what it does
  5. Threaten any country that disagrees
  6. Threaten any protesters who disagree, and
  7. Send Israel another few billion dollars' worth of bombs.

With this approach, Israel is sure to turn its behavior around any day now.

[–] footoro@sh.itjust.works 4 points 5 months ago

This summarizes it quite well. But please keep in mind that there are red lines that Israel shouldn’t cross. If Israel does something that crosses the red line according to other countries go back to step 2.

No-one is surprised or acting surprised that the bomb was used, people are upset at how.

[–] bartolomeo@suppo.fi 14 points 5 months ago

Photos and videos used to identify the bomb remnants were taken by journalist Alam Sadeq in Gaza, who visited the scene of the strike early on Monday.

That must have been the "tragic mistake" Netanyahu was talking about... leaving a journalist alive in Gaza.

This is why "lesser of two evils" might be a good plan in a single election, but not three in a row.

[–] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Trump (in his first term) was the lessor of two evils?

[–] unmagical@lemmy.ml 11 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Trump (in his first term) lost the popular vote.

[–] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 10 points 5 months ago

More specifically: Trump has never won the popular vote for President.

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 5 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

yeah, this one has broken me, there's no way I can support anyone who's currently running. I'll probably write in myself which I know is a waste but I've come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter anyway. we get to choose between genocide and the death of the nation, or take the comedy option on the guy who drove his wife to suicide while high on heroin to, I don't know, give the brainworms something to do while dying of mercury poisoning...

[–] EditsHisComments@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

One evil respects democracy and at least wants to better the lives of most the people in the country. Morally dubious, but has helped more people than harmed.

The other respects only himself and wants to better the life of only himself while using anyone and anything he can to achieve that - remember the time he claimed the election was stolen before it was even concluded? The guy literally has a psychologist in his family who detailed how awful he really is, and was before he became president.

And then there's RFK Jr. who had a worm starve to death inside his brain. He isn't necessarily evil, just horribly stupid

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

One evil respects democracy

Which one is that?

The DNC's chosen pick?

That one that in 2020 got endorsed by a handful of candidates who all dropped out withing 24 hours of Super Tuesday and endorsed Biden?

I asked someone else earlier, and they wouldn't answer.

  1. Why wouldn't they wait to see how Super Tuesday turned out if they wanted to win and had already spent the money on campaigning?
  1. Do you honestly believe that happened with zero coordination from the DNC or Biden's campaign?
  1. Do you think Bernie got a heads up before they announced?

Because up until they did, he was projected to win the plurality of Super Tuesday states, and Biden was coming off big early disappoints besides SC. And 24 hours just isn't enough time for Bernie to have reacted in 15 states in less than 24 hours or for voters to make an informed decision of their own when it was just Bernie and Biden.

Now, if you think four years ago is ancient history:

Why did Biden support the DNC taking away NH delegates for something only state republicans controlled?

Personally I think because the first state habitually voting progressive and not for him pissed him off. Especially since he replaced it with SC, his sole decisive win from the last primary before the above mentioned shenanigans

It definitely wasnt his love of democracy that made him support removing a state's worth of Dem voters voice...

[–] EditsHisComments@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago (2 children)

You're talking about primaries and I'm talking about presidential generals. I voted Bernie each time in the primaries because I think the DNC establishment is too far right. I personally think Bernie isn't progressive enough, but this is the US.

We're literally in agreement on this part, and I said Biden was morally dubious. Guy's a terrible person and a horrible politician, don't get me wrong. But I'll take Biden over Trump any day, because at least Biden has never incited an insurrection

[–] qprimed@lemmy.ml 9 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

But I'll take Biden over Trump any day, because at least Biden has never incited an insurrection

not trying to be snarky here, but this says it all. this is what late stage capitalism has delivered to us and the world. I have a very hard time seeing how we course correct away from the looming dead end.

donald "I could shoot someone" trump vs joe "nothing will fundamentally change" biden remains a likely species ending proposition.

[–] EditsHisComments@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I agree, tbh, and my career is involved with economics lol. But, as with climate change, I do what I can with what's available and try to improve what I can when possible.

Do I see it getting better? Not anytime soon. But I sure as hell don't want to hasten the outcome.

[–] qprimed@lemmy.ml 5 points 5 months ago

I understand. hugs.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

You’re talking about primaries and I’m talking about presidential generals

So, what you meant was Biden loves democracy when the only other option is a fascist?

That's not democracy, which is why the biggest reason people gave in last election or upcoming for voting Biden is "he's not trump".

If the only options for ruler of the planet was me or hitler, and I was a complete fucking psychopath, I'd also call that democracy and say I loved it. But what I would be really saying is I love it when the only other choice besides myself was someone even worse.

That's not democracy, that's nowhere close to it.

Especially factoring in the electoral college and only a handful of states are ever in play.

In the majority of states we already know who gets all their electoral college votes.

This is not a democracy.

[–] EditsHisComments@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Alright, you're just arguing for the sake of it at this point and putting words in my mouth lol. While we're technically in a capitalistic oligarchy, we do have some democratic processes at play. I don't like it, and you don't either. Which is weird because you're seemingly arguing against the only candidate that is actively trying to maintain that semblance of democracy. Trump has actively tried to undermine this semblance of democracy in each of the recent elections, even in the election he won.

Let's circle back for you. Biden is the lesser evil of the two. When these are your only realistic choices in our current system, there's only one that's obvious. Campaign for structural reform and for politicians that want to reform and improve the system we have.

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 2 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

I used to make the same arguments but I’m middle aged now, have been supporting the left, volunteering, knocking on doors, donating, etc. for over 20 years now; but in all that time, shit has only gotten worse. I’m saddened every day what I’m leaving my children and it makes me feel awful to know that they will be fighting all the same fights I have and even more. I’m definitely no turnip supporter but I no longer believe that there will be any functional difference regardless of who wins. The ship is going down no matter who is captaining.

I would hold my nose and vote once again but even the best possible outcome is still a shit sandwich I’m not willing to take another bite of. So, I’m out, and yes, I do know that’s what they want, I just don’t care anymore.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world -2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

we do have some democratic processes at play.

Russia just held an election...

They have some democratic processes...

Do you call them a democracy too?

Or is your line for what's a democracy whatever America is currently doing?

[–] EditsHisComments@lemmy.world 0 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

Do you live to argue? Did you even read what I wrote, or do you only cherry pick? You're resorting to whataboutism. And for the record no, because Russia is a full-blown oligarchy that holds farce "presidential" elections. The fact Trump, the leader at the time, lost shows we're doing better than Russia is.

We both support progressive candidates and ideologies. I hate Biden, but I live in a state where I'll have to vote for him. But since you don't want to have an actual conversation, we're done here. Talk like this is why Republicans are doing so well despite over half of the US hating their guts.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world -1 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Did you even read what I wrote,

I stop when I find something that's clearly wrong and needs corrected, same with everyone else.

If you say 20 wrong things in each comment, I'm not going to take an hour addressing them all in one comment.

You’re resorting to whataboutism.

No, an example of whataboutism is when people criticize Biden, someone says "but what about trump? He's worse."

Was it the bomb Nikki Haley signed and told Israel to "Kill em' all"?

[–] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world 0 points 5 months ago

Haley signed a mortar shell, this was a bomb dropped from a plane.

But there's a 99% chance that this bomb was sent by Joe Biden.

[–] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago

But Joe Biden just said that American weapons aren't used to commit war crimes so everyone killed was actually a Khamaasssss.

[–] ArmokGoB@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Is this news? The US is sending them weapons. Of course they're using them.

[–] Tryptaminev@lemm.ee 6 points 5 months ago

Israel claimed they used small 17kg bombs in a precise strike and the fire was caused by Hamas weapons being stored there. It is an obvious lie because everyone can see the video of the impact and the huge singular explosion without secondary explosions. Anyone who saw videos from Ukraine targeting Russian ammo depots knows the difference.

Meanwhile the German public media parrots the Israelis lies without looking into any of the easily available evidence to the contrary.

Yes it is news and yes it is incredibly important to keep reporting this and to show the evidence, so that the lies do not win and the people responsible can be held accountable.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Analysis of images of shrapnel gathered at the scene of an Israeli strike in Rafah on Sunday showed evidence of a bomb that was a U.S.-made GBU-39, two munitions experts told CBS News.

"I instantly knew the housing was a GBU," Trevor Ball, who worked as an ordnance disposal tech - or bomb diffuser - for the U.S. Army for five years, told CBS News.

Photos and videos used to identify the bomb remnants were taken by journalist Alam Sadeq in Gaza, who visited the scene of the strike early on Monday.

He told CBS News he was searching the area, including around damaged tents that had once housed civilians, when he identified several pieces of shrapnel with English words on them.

"The whole actuator assembly is unique," Ball told CBS News, explaining his identification process using the images of the shrapnel from the scene.

When asked by CBS News whether U.S.-made munitions were used by Israel in the strike, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, speaking to press in Moldova, said the incident was "horrific" but that he could not verify what weapons were used.
