submitted 4 months ago by liv@lemmy.nz to c/newzealand@lemmy.nz

Hi everyone, can we do a Photo Friday?

@sortofblue@lemmy.nz used to post them, but I haven't seen them for ages and @Dave@lemmy.nz said it'd be okay.

Theme: Something you like!

Rules: no NSFW and has to be a snap you took yourself.

I couldn't find any recent photos I've taken that I would describe as "Something I like", but I guess I don't not like giraffes? Have some giraffes.

I love giraffes!! Awesome photo too! I haven't been that close to them in years!

Ooh I just noticed the baby is in the background, too!

Christmas 2023 on Lake Taupo

[-] liv@lemmy.nz 4 points 4 months ago

Amazing sky! I've never sailed on a lake, is it much different in feel to the sea?

[-] Username@lemmy.nz 3 points 4 months ago

Thanks! Depends significantly on the lake (size, surrounding terrain etc). Taupo can be pretty unpredictable. You’ll have no wind at all and then all of a sudden be on your side. Beautiful though and great swimming. Highly recommend!

P.S. I have also sailed very different boats in lakes vs. sea so that’s another factor to counter in.

Rode up a steep hill and found a decent bit of weather this morning. And a rainbow down the other side, too.

That's really pretty. What beach were you at?

[-] Panq@lemmy.nz 2 points 4 months ago

Karioitahi beach, right on the boundary between Auckland and Waikato.

Nice photo! Is it yours? (the mandarin (?) tree)

[-] liv@lemmy.nz 2 points 4 months ago

Tangelos! It doesn't belong to me but it's where I live. The tree is about 40 years old, we eat it and some of the windfall gets repurposed as bird feed.

Nice! It looks amazing, so much fruit!

Yes unusually big yield, I hope it's not because there's something wrong with it! I must get under it with some candle wax and look for borer.
