Seems that if we delay deleting content to after July 1st it might be nigh on impossible. As traffic from goggle to old posts will still benefit reddit should we delete or not?

EDIT just spotted this

I deleted two accounts, and all comments, votes, and posts. One 8 and one 12 year old. With over 100k Karma combined. I'd recommend it to anyone who cares about the situation.

Theyll just restore it.

Delete the account and move on stop giving them clicks

I just think the mass deletion of content is such a loss for the internet as a whole. I wish instead of people supporting deleting Reddit comments, there was a way for individuals to upload a history of their comments onto a Lemmy instance. I just think deleting all of your reddit contribution is a massive loss for the Internet, regardless of the significance of the contribution.

This tool, that I’ve not used yet, allows you to export your content, then edit it, then delete it.

I’ve read that a deleted comment can be restored but an edit first wipes out the backup. Use at your own pace.

Totally agree. Would be so nice if there was a way to mirror our Reddit past into the fediverse.

[-] abff08f4813c@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

This is exactly what I am doing. Saved all my comments and posts with a script, now slowly reposting my own original content into the fediverse.

There are a lot of guides on how to do this in the RedditMigration magazine on kbin.social

I know I may be in the minority, but I've decided to not delete anything from my account. None of my posts or comments have a massive amount of karma and Reddit was really the only social media that I actively participated in. Call me sentimental or stupid but I don't want that record to completely go away.

Done my part. deleted all post and then deleted my account. No need to get attached to those post/comments.

We start a new life in lemmy o7

Tell Reddit you'll leave the content up if they pay you $0.10 per comment.

I am deleting my messages and posts right after I receive my requested data and information from reddit. Even If i have to do it manually. You can do the same by following these instructions

[-] phil299@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

A mass request protest might be a worth while idea ?

[-] Czele@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

They have 30 days to comply so it wouldnt necessarily burn their servers but its still a nice middle finger before saying goodbye. Also I am truly curious what data about me they have managed to produce

[-] NarrativeBear@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Definitely was my preference to delete all my past comments and posts, ended up using a chrome plugin that changes all the comments to blank, and then deleted them. Pretty straightforward.

[-] BionicHippo@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Nice! Which plug-in did you use?

The billing cycle for many using the API, which is also when many developers will simply be shutting down their apps/software to not incur costs.

[-] someguy3@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

Ah this affects the delete my comments tools?

[-] ElectroVagrant@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I think so, and that seems to be the mentality those discussing whether or not to do so share.

[-] daFRAKKINpope@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago

Don't burn the library.

[-] spittingimage@lemmy.world -4 points 1 year ago

I'm thinking hard about it, and I'm leaning towards delete.

If it was just monitization I don't think I'd care much, but Reddit is also treating mods and contributors with contempt and I don't think they deserve the chance to reward themselves for it.
