This is a general community for 40k miniatures, art, lore discussion, and gameplay discussion.

Rules

  1. Keep it civil.
  2. No memeposts/shitposts. Memes are great but direct them to grimdank.
  3. Please mark any posts containing realistic nudity or realistic excessive gore/violence as NSFW; this rule mainly applies to cosplay and realistic drawings rather than miniatures. Being that 40k is inherently violent, this is a judgement call, and mods may occasionally request posters add tags.
  4. No political or social cause agenda pushing.

Something I was told a long time ago for easier eyes was to paint them looking to the side. It prevents the troops from going cross eyed, and makes cleanup with skintone a lot easier. It also tends to make them look more dramatic.

With helmeted Cadians, rather than doing eyes, an option is to put them on their back, feet slightly elevated and drop some brown or mixed brown-black wash to the eye area. It will dry looking like helmet brim shadow.

I was going for a “WOAAAAHHH OH NO!!!” sort of look for the infantry, and luckily it came out that way. Just kidding!

Luckily I’ve learned a lot since I started the hobby, and I can confirm that the wash technique works great. I got a good laugh when I finally had room to display my models and took a close up photo for the first time in years.

Very nice. My original army of city fighting Catachan minis had similarly shell shocked expressions.
