transmetropolitan was ever irrelevant?

I'm still shocked, SHOCKED that it hasn't been grabbed by SOMEONE to adapt into a TV show.

It's basically a no brainer for either Amazon or HBO. Amazon already did ~~Preacher and~~ The Boys. and AMC did Preacher

Tangentially, Fox did Y the Last Man, and HBO did Watchmen sequels, Watchmen proper already got adapted, Netflix did Sandman...

What's fucking left from the adult comics boom of 80s-00s ? Shade the Changing Man? Animal man? The Invisibles?

EDIT: All I can think of is Warren Ellis' stuff, and the OBVIOUS one is Transmet. Sure, you can try the authority or global frequency, but transmet seems the more grounded, beloved and perpetually relevant one.

They're afraid to make journalism look as cool as this

Preacher was AMC, not Amazon.

No problem!

The opposite of a hot take: The Invisibles in unfilmable

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

cold take : US citizens wouldn't be able to understand Grant Morrisson's commentary track.

Medium take: I would fucking mail my left thumb to the first studio to do a good job with a proper Animal Man series. That thing was bonkers.

So far ahead of its time. I can’t recommend this series enough to anyone who considers themselves even kinda left.

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

nah fuck it, recommend it to the nazis too, let them see what cunts they are

Never heard of Transmetropolitan but this looks amazing!

I am in no way a comic book reader but transmet is the most important work of recent political fiction I have read.

And what's the message of this? What kind of consequences are suggested to follow this cognition?

[–] WraithGear@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I guess prepare to have your organs tapped by the switch blade of tyranny.

But mainly it’s about the oppression of the minority by the majority.

Defend yourself with the chair leg of truth.

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

the message is that the people voting need to be educated, and democracy doesn't guarantee best results.

[–] CyberEgg@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

We're supposed to learn that from almost every election in the last couple of years. I mean specifically what's the message of this comic strip.

[–] Sidhean@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

The message of the comic strip is that democracy doesn't guarantee the best results.

Even if I don't vote to kill me, everyone else can vote to kill me.

[–] Prox@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

FWIW, this comic vastly predates the last couple of years - it was published in the 1997-2002 range.

[–] rustyfish@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The best comic I have ever read. Period.

[–] Goldmage263@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Is there multiple editions, or just one run?

Edit: Looked it up. Amazon has it, but will check my local bookstore/comicstore first.

[–] rustyfish@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Most well equipped comic book stores have it. I’m sure you will find it there.

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

LCS should be stocked with it, it's fairly popular. make sure you start with collection/vol 1, vol 0 of paperback collections is artwork/spoilers.

Pity that the author is a sexcreep

Except they fuck themselves with switchblades too.
