Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

The time for this was 3 months ago

Four years ago, really. He should have exited 1600 Pennsylvania directly into the back of a squad car.

Instead, he was free to continue doing crimes while rebuilding his base of support for another bite at the apple. Not a huge surprise, given the US's long and ugly history of turning a blind eye to corporate goonery, financial malfeasance, and organized crime. But depressing, given how much of this was a predictable consequence.

Guy was convicted on 34 counts but never even got to sentencing. Pathetic.

Guy was convicted on 34 counts and then re-elected to the presidency.

After running the most embarrassingly stupid and dishonest and disgusting and alarming campaigns in the history of this once great nation, with a economic plan based on using tariffs to somehow make inflation go away. It's like America randomly decided to commit suicide.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

Free to campaign. Free to fundraise. Free to conspire within the party and continue to build support.

And then the opposition ran a prosecutor mostly known for her reluctance to indict white collar criminals.

No shit he won.

He committed those crimes to help himself, just imagine if we harnessed that criminal enterprise for the economy!

-what millions apparently unironically believed

I know you're joking, but I believe his followers just don't think any of it is real. They actually believe that it is all politically motivated.

More projection of course.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

I think they believe whatever is most convenient. Sometimes that involves stuff about as insane as my joke :/

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, that'll teach him!

No, wait, I got my pages mixed up...

[–] Feathercrown@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Was it even legal not to sentence him

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

It's not a crime if the President does it. Or so prior presidents have told me.

A little fucking late don't you think?

[–] lost_faith@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago

Never too late for the CLICKS

[–] Ulvain@sh.itjust.works 23 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

There is no alarm anymore..thr alarmable are alarmed. They will be for the next 4 years - or forever if it's the nail in the democratic coffin. Those not alarmed yet are either uninterrested, too far gone, or very much aligned with anything alarming this administration will do.

In other words, we're pretty fucked.

[–] NineMileTower@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Ok, I'm alarmed. Now what? Tell me exactly what to do and I'll do it.

For legal reasons, I do not condone any form of violence whatsoever, and the Adjuster is, legally, a criminal who should not in any way be emulated. For legal reasons, I must dissuade you from engaging in any actions which disrupt ICE, and I must warn you that such interference is a crime.

That being the case, it's legal, for now, to refuse to purchase and consume. Participate in local elections and organizations. Engage in mutual aid. Look up local buy-nothing groups. Organize using end-to-end encrypted comms - though note that, for legal reasons, this may cause interference with legal investigations, and that such interference may be considered a crime, and that, for legal reasons, many such acts of organizing may be deemed illegal in the near future. Please be aware of and follow all applicable laws.

Note that I am explicitly not condoning any illegal actions whatsoever, and am actively attempting to dissuade you from engaging in any such activities - please do not break any laws or commit any crimes. I am not in any way advocating violence, in accordance with Rule 6. I am saying that you should probably vote, and that it is important to always be aware of and follow all applicable laws.

Mods on lemmy think we should sit back and take it.

[–] Grass@sh.itjust.works 20 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I thought I saw agent 47 and trump in the same headline and got excited for a second there

[–] ramsorge@discuss.online 6 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I think that might be the solution…

[–] Hadriscus@lemm.ee 10 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

good god look at this guy, it's like a reanimated corpse someone's puppeteering from under the suit

[–] paddirn@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, no, we're still going to walk into this, despite nothing about this sounding like it's going to turn out well. Gee golly, there's just nothing we can do about any of this. Not like we have a current sitting President with the effective powers of a king who could wield that power for the greater good. Nah, we're just gonna do this. Hope it works out well.
