I saw the picture before reading the text, and thought "oh no what has Elizabeth Holmes done now."

[–] 21Cabbage@lemmynsfw.com 12 points 6 hours ago

Your insistence on using the Darth Vader voice probably wasn't helping either.

[–] midnight_puker@sh.itjust.works 29 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

I don't even know what the fuck this means.

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

In case it's any consolation, I came here to say largely the same thing, except that I was going to say I liked the poster's name.

Holmes scammed a lot of people while her whole wardrobe consisted of black turtlenecks

[–] dis_honestfamiliar@lemmy.sdf.org 23 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago) (1 children)

Scammed a lot people, where most were rich people. That's why she got thrown in jail.

FTFY

Probably true. But also millions of regular sick people going to Walgreens for blood tests used these devices and got BS results. Not just rich people were affected by this.

[–] booly@sh.itjust.works 6 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

The hilarious thing was that she was actually acquitted of scamming patients. She was only convicted of scamming investors for claiming that patients could be treated using false tests.

[–] embed_me@programming.dev 3 points 4 hours ago

Those patients had agreed to the terms by agreeing to the use of the test duh! 🙄

me every time I'm shaving my mustache under my nose.

[–] TheMightyCanuck@sh.itjust.works 8 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

We've all done it.

Bastard ruined it for us all

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

I just wanted to kiss Worf!

(I've actually never done it. Shaving is hard. I've always had a goatee, no facial hair, or full beard.)

[–] MudMan@fedia.io 35 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Is... this a thing?

I know who that was, it just... came and went, didn't seem like anybody cared much.

Although I'm not American, maybe it was a bigger deal there?

[–] Xenny@lemmy.world 23 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Probably in American tech environments Everyone else has moved on lol

[–] Infynis@midwest.social 2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, it would have to be super niche spaces. I followed what was going on with her, but I never saw a picture of her I can remember. Seems weird to still know what she looks like lol

[–] subtext@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

The black turtle neck was just a thing for Holmes. Idk if she wanted to be Jobs or what, but it was a definite thing. Plus there was a documentary about the whole scandal that WA’s moderately popular that reinforced the look.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 15 points 9 hours ago

Reading this in the voice of a 30-year smoker.

[–] Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org 13 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

I say they should take it back. I've never met a blonde who looked bad in black.

[–] Coreidan@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

What about a 300 pound blonde?

[–] Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

She didn't look bad either.

[–] Coreidan@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

All you’re saying is that you’re happy to bang fatties as long as they are blonde.

Nothing wrong with that. You do you bro.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 13 points 10 hours ago (6 children)

This woman could wear a trash bag and still look gorgeous, I bet. It's obvious she's more diligent about her health than I am about mine. Well done.

[–] Coreidan@lemmy.world 4 points 6 hours ago

she's more diligent about her health

That or genes. It’s the genes.

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 3 points 6 hours ago

You should try making lots of money by scamming people. It allows you to focus more on your health and the more you focus on your health and look better the more people trust you and the more you can scam them

[–] Codename_goose@sh.itjust.works 15 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago) (1 children)

In response to a similar comment about her appearance, Marilyn Monroe did an entire photo shoot in a ~~flower~~ potato sac.

[–] Kitathalla@lemy.lol 4 points 4 hours ago

That's a pretty shapely bag.

[–] Saledovil@sh.itjust.works 5 points 9 hours ago

Trash bags are typically black, so.

[–] Maalus@lemmy.world 5 points 10 hours ago

I don't remember where the quote is from

"Do I look ugly in this dress?"

"Honey, you would be beautiful with nothing but a pot on your head"

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 3 points 9 hours ago

Makeup, maybe.

Health?

Bet she tries to be a fruitarian with pancreatic cancer.

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 19 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Well, I'm OOTL, apparently...

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 40 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Woman started company that scammed rich investors instead of just the plebs so she got gaoled.

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 37 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Also planned on scamming patients, but yes the reason she got bonked was because she fucked with the elites

[–] Kitathalla@lemy.lol 1 points 4 hours ago

DID scam patients, but there's no justice if you aren't 'worth' the police's effort.

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 10 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (1 children)

google image search Elizabeth Holmes

[–] DannyBoy@sh.itjust.works 13 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Did she become Theranos in the latest movie or something? I think I'm still missing something.

[–] anton@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 points 10 hours ago

While it sounds like a superhero-thing, theranos was a scam medical company.

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 13 points 11 hours ago

And god forbid you have a cold making your voice lower
