A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. A showerthought should offer a unique perspective on an ordinary part of life.

Just Google "Taylor Swift age" like the rest of us creeps.

I hardly know who that is, which feels great to be honest.

I'm tired of celebs.

Trying to do this mentally:

1989 + 1 = 1990
2023 - 2000 = 23
2000 - 1990 = 10
23 + 10 = 33

33 - 1 = 32 Ha! Easy!... Wait.

33 + 1 = 34 Shit. Double+1. Ok, I thought the -1 at the end would undo the +1 at the beginning. But, I guess the 2000-1990 messed me up.

Maybe

2000 - 1990 = 10
1990 - 1989 = 1
2023 - 2000 = 23
23 + 1 = 24
24 + 10 = 34

I was lucky and was born in 1990. I've always appreciated that all you have to do to figure out my age is add 10 to the year. Like, when it's 2054, I know I'll be 64.

Only 90 babies will get this

[–] scottmeme@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

Feb 2000 here, I agree 👍

If you're born in '89 just add 11 to the current year and you have your age (34). This works for any year you're born.

Born in ''83? Just add 17 to the current year. You have your age (40)

It's great. When people ask me how old I am I just ask them which year is this and repeat the last two digits.

You'll get people ridiculing you for not remembering your own age but believe you me, you're not alone in the struggle. My husband and I started dating in 2000 so that's awfully convenient.

tbf, it may not be hard to calculate, but it is hard to admit I'm almost halfway my thirties...

Also born in 89, I can say I was still born in the Soviet Union.

I understand that people are scared of "new" math, but for a 1989 birthday just take the last too digits of the current year, add ten, then add one if you've already had a birthday this year, e.g. 23+10+1=34. Almost the same math I used to count change when I worked retail.

Whoa, whoa, slow down, egghead.

... you lost my brain at 1989.

They do have to calculate it, it's just the calculation is a bit easier for them.

[–] CaptainEffort@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

But we’re not really calculating anything. I was 12 in 2012 and 8 in 2008. That’s much less a calculation and more so just observing numbers.

You're not living up to your username with an effort like that!

It changes once a year, how stupid are some people that this is an issue?

[–] TellMeWendigo@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Damn. You sure told us. May this be your shining achievement of the day ✨

[–] Puppy@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

If you think about your age every day, you are the stupid one around here. Or maybe you are just 13 and it's easy because you eagerly await the next year so you can be treated a little bit more like an adult so you count the days.

[–] MontyVirus@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

My exact age is almost never relevant in my day-to-day life, I pretty much only get reminded of it on my actual birthday and don’t think much about it for the rest of the year. So if somebody asks for my age, usually I’ll be off by a year or two and my wife will need to correct me, because for some reason she remembers.
