as a recently-minted fan of the cassette futurism concept, i wanted to see some here on lemm.ee

the blog link and probably most of the content for a while will be 'flattery' of the reddit sub, and mods/community/everyone are welcome.

The entire movie embodies Cassette Futurism, but IMO the self-destruct sequence is particularly great. The entire process looks so satisfying that I probably wouldn't be able to stop myself from running it if I were one of the crew.

Source: EBM A128 Sci-Fi Cassette Computer (by Leigh Harborne - ArtStation)

I started out playing with booleans and ended up with some shapes that reminded me of home computing in the 80s; the Atari and Commodore era. So I put a sci-fi spin on it and turned it into a game-ready model.
I was impatient when it came to moving over to Substance Painter so there is some wasted texture space on some interior faces that really should have been removed.

Not really Cassette Futurism (or Vaporwave) but I think folks here might like it still.

Not really Vaporwave, but not too sure where it fits. These styles inspired a lot of Vaporwave things so I thought you might enjoy.

(low-res) video: SQUID Device from Strange Days - YouTube

This is the actual hero prop used in the movie. The 'face plate' was interchangeable to make it look like several different units throughout the film. I made this video just to show that it still functions and what the prop actually does when turned on. (Which isn't much, some LEDs come on and the disc inside spins up...)
