Hello everyone.

I started to post audiobooks of The Culture series on Tankietube, split into 15-ish minutes bite size parts. And I just posted part 1 of chapter 1 of The Player of Games (Yes, I know it's the second book, I'll be posting the books in an order I've seen recommended instead of publishing order). I already have 5 of these ready that I will be posting ASAP, and many more on the way.

I tried my best to cut in places that wouldn’t be too awkward and I put some pretty background as video just to not have just nothing or a static image. What do you think?

If you haven't noticed in recent times, liberals have been accusing the Trump administration and basically anybody who criticizes Biden/Kamala/liberalism of being a Russian agent or puppet! (Or sometimes a Chinese or Iranian puppet, but Russia is the most common)

It can't be the fault of the United States themselves! It can't be that liberal capitalism would eventually degenerate into fascism! It can't be that people are genuinely furious at the government independent of foreign powers!

It's all the Russians!

It's especially infuriating when they accuse leftists (particularly pro-Palestinian activists) of being "just funded by the Russians!" It's like liberals refuse to take responsibility for their own ideology's atrocities and think that their precious liberalism can never be wrong and all the haters are just fake.

Are the Russian bots in the room with us right now?

A friend of mine told me today that they forgot to update their social security status after naturalizing (US). I guts me to know how worried their family is about deportations. I don't have advice to give, so I wanted to ask the community here of you have any advice I could pass along.

i think the purpose of this simulation is to suffer. if i were an omnipotent god, what would i want the most? it's to be the opposite, to be powerless and feel suffering. if i were an omnipotent god, i would overdose on pleasure instantly with my powers, then i would seek something different

What is the strategic significance of the Battle of Pochonbo?
Its significance lies not in that it killed a few Japanese aggressors, but in that it showed the Korean people were not dead, but alive and it threw out revolutionary rays of hope which inspired them with the confidence that they could defeat Japanese imperialism if they fought it. The Battle of Pochonbo declared to the whole world: The Korean people are resisting Japanese imperialism; they do not accept the notion that Korea and Japan are one; the Japanese imperialists and the Koreans are not of the same ancestry; the Koreans will not join the Japanese imperialists in invading China; Koreans will not abandon their mother tongue, nor will they change their surnames into Japanese ones; the Korean people are not dead but are alive; and they can defeat the Japanese imperialists if they fight them. This is the strategic significance of the Battle of Pochonbo. Herein lies the historic significance of the Battle of Pochonbo.

I think its pretty obvious America wants to destroy China and will start WW3 to do it if need be. Tf are we supposed to do. Just try to survive and hope the Chinese win? I wish everyday America had some sort of vanguard party that could lead us through this.

I can't really see any other reason why they would do such a radical move. Does the Trump clique plan a war with China in the near future? Do you think a third world war is imminent?

So the new season dropped and for some reason I feel like they will lib it up lol. Like, the final solution to all of it will be liberalism somehow.

Also, funny to see armed resistance being an option in the season, which will get eaten up by libs for being badass undoubtedly, all the while cOnDeMnInG hAmAs of course.

Why are they trying to sell these tarrifs as "AI generated & very complex" when it is basically just the trade deficit with the countries? Or am I wrong?

Are there any non-edgy ways to display a wooden sword?

My dad died from COVID a few years back and I got a bunch of his stuff, in it was this wooden japanese sword thing, which looks kinda like this one. I think he was really into Kendo as a kid.

I don't want to get rid of it as it's one of the few things I have from him, but at the moment it's just sitting propped up in a corner of my home office. I'd like to put it on the wall or something, but also I don't want to be one of those guys who mounts a japanese sword on the wall as that veers into edgelord territory.

So, does anyone know of a non-edgy way of displaying a (wooden) sword?

I'm having my third foot surgery on 24th April. It's because a side effect of my cancer treatment was developing foot ulcers, which then became infected. The cancer treatment has weakened my immune system so I have been unable to fight the infections off myself. After trying various other treatments which didn't work, the only thing left to try was surgical debridement, which is where they cut out the dead, damaged and infected parts from my feet.

This is my third surgery. They couldn't do it all in one go because they can only use a certain amount of local anaesthetic each time and with multiple areas that need treating, they had to break it up into several separate surgeries.

After the surgery my feet will be bandaged and have to be kept dry. The dressings need to be changed daily. Although the NHS pays for the surgery they don't pay for the shower boots needed to keep the dressings dry, or the dressings themselves. At the hospital they sell the dressing packs and the shower boots themselves to make sure the patient is getting the right type and size. I did buy shower boots last time but they haven't stood up to months of use and now let water in.

My final foot surgery is coming up, April 24th. (That's why I'm asking for help now, so I have time to repost if necessary, or cancel the surgery if I can't get enough help to pay for these things). Afterwards I'll need packs of bandages (which must be changed every day), as well as waterproof shower boots. The NHS doesn't provide these things for free, and without them I can't have the surgery.

People here kindly helped me buy these things last time so I could have my previous surgery in January. I hoped I'd have enough of the bandages left for this time, but I don't. I ended up running out last time as the areas took longer than expected to heal - in the end I got through 4 boxes last time. Whether I need as many this time depends on how long it takes to heal (I had issues with infections of the surgical sites last time which slowed down the healing.) I bought the waterproof shower boots last time but after being used for so long (months) they began letting water in. If I can't get enough support I will have to reuse those but I hope to be able to get new ones otherwise the bandages will get wet and I'll be at further risk of infection.

If anyone is able to contribute anything at all towards the cost of all of this, I would be so grateful. I hope to get enough in total for the following:

The shower boots are £15 each and I need two as both feet are being done. The bandage packs (which contain bandages, sterile dressings and adhesives) are £37 and I needed 4 packs last time. The hospital sells these items directly to patients on the day of surgery so you know you're getting exactly the right items in the right sizes.

It started in Chinese class, we were doing Kahoot (virtual pop quiz), when Student A harassed me for not getting a perfect score. He said, "I thought Asians were smart". Well I'm sorry for not being a perfect robot. That is a dehumanizing stereotype, and he probably didn't even consider it to be racism which makes it twice as worse. He also said, "You should be good at this since you're Chinese." I'm Asian American, my main language is English. It's normal for Asian Americans to be illiterate in their ethnic language. Oh, you're Chinese? List every Chinese word in the dictionary. At the beginning of the year, I scanned the classroom for Asians. He took offense to this. I'm sorry for preferring Asians. A Chinese person has never called me a removed before. A Chinese person has never told me to go back to China.

During group time, we were paired together. He asked me how well he wrote the Chinese characters, and I half-heartedly said it was good. He took offense to this. So you want to disrespect my race and expect me to treat you fairly? I ordered in perfect English at McDonalds, where is my praise? Growing up, I faced all sorts of humiliation over my accent. Be glad I didn't treat you the same as those racists. He tried to stir up drama by involving our history teacher and the students, loudly complaining about how I treated him to the entire class. The history teacher forced me to apologize to him, which was absurd. The entire situation was peak white fragility.

I see many socialists on X and Instagram that are not on Mastodon, why is that? Is there a socialist argument as to why these organizations are still there, and should we join them?

So some years back I moved to the 'big' city that is Antwerp and unbeknownst to me I accidentally moved into what was an up and coming, to be gentrified area of the city. To me it was just a nice looking appartement near the city center.

The area used to be a more working class area but it was facing some upwards social mobility so to say, with lots of development going on. There were lots of artsy folks going around, there were some fun new bars and some fun old bars and the population was kind of mixed.

In the years that I lived there (I have moved to another area recently) the area changed from this mix of people into a more homogeneous crowd of upper middle class or upper class people with good incomes or parent money. Rent has skyrocketed. Non animal milk is nowhere to be found.

In Amsterdam they call these people the havermelkelite (oat milk elite), a group of people that are a part of society's elite but who also feel the need to be somewhat woke (hence the oat milk). Mind you, I'm vegan myself so I'm not shitting on the concept of oat milk.

They ride around on their electric cargo bicycles, they order a 12 euro glass of wine when going out, they take their 10k designer dog out for a walk, they fly (haha) to Cape Town several times a year to escape the 'grind'. Their clothes cost an average monthly worker's salary. Their stores and bars are funny. Want to go to the bakery to have a croissant? Well, this bakery is also a morning techno club. Want to go to the gym? Well, this gym offers classes to polyamourous couples only. They travel the world (read: yoga resorts on Bali) and feel like they know how everything works.

What's wrong with this? Nothing much. Spoiled rich people have existed for a long time now, nothing new. They drive up the rent wherever they go, they chase off the people that were already living there. They look down on working class people drinking 3 euro wine or beer, further growing the divide between the 'elite' and the other working class people.

It is hyper individualism at its finest. They can be woke and do good for the world, so why can't the peasants in the working class areas do the same? If said people vote right wing people into power instead of the Green party, they are just idiots who have worms for brains. It can't be that the Green party is secretly a neoliberal party for the elite so out of touch with reality that no single factory worker is voting for them.

It's vanity to the max. They try to be so unique that ironically they fit into an exact stereotype devoid of actual character. They became a parody of themselves.

Sorry for my negativity. I had to rant after walking through my old neighborhood the other day feeling kind of shocked at the state of the smugness I saw everywhere. Ultimately we are all on the same side and we need to unite rather than divide.
