I appeared on the Monero Talk podcast, to discuss the new Session bot software Simplified Privacy has been creating. This would allow for the uncensored distribution of content, even under the harshest conditions such as an outright Monero ban.

See the instance setup yourself, by sending a message on Session to the ID: “MoneroTalk”

One word, without quotes. You can download session at getsession.org. As well as the other instance we have setup, at "Simple"

It’s a very long podcast, but I start at 1 hour 17 minutes in, https://www.monerotalk.live/digital-privacy-w-simplified-privacy-monero-price-report-news-more-epi-152

And I see the posts here about Nostr, I’m a fan of that too. This compliments Nostr perfectly. As Nostr is weaker censorship, but easier to spread on the clearweb.

What I would like is all the best Monero stuff (Wallets / Mining Tools / customized browser bookmarks, etc.) preloaded and configured on a full blown Linux Distribution, delivered as a boot-able, installation ISO image where I can burn a DVD or create a USB Startup Disk. You may want to create several flavors, one for low end hardware like what's in MoneroNodo, and one for dedicated mining rigs if that makes sense. I would want the version from the MoneroNodo released first.

It's ok to offer some images for various hypervisors like Gnome Boxes, VMWare, and VirtualBox, but the best format of all would be the LXC container in a tarball released to Turnkey Linux like they use in Proxmox, because the performance is much, much better than any virtual machine and it's most lightweight of the other formats, making the best use of system resources.

I could help test and would donate, especially if the LXC container were released to Turnkey Linux and was made available thru that channel on not a custom download/install.

TL;DR - I have an idea for a P2P decentralized marketplace using Monero and Nostr, but I'm looking for feedback and help.

So I'm a web developer that works mainly in Python (Flask), and I believe in Monero. I recently had an idea to make an open source P2P marketplace. Basically, this would work like Nostr (or on the Nostr protocol) where everything is decentralized, allowing each individual merchant to be responsible for their own legality. Payments wouldn't be handled by the marketplace. All that it would do is display the seller's receive address or qr code, and then check if the payment came through in full. So the seller would need to provide their receive address and view key which would be stored locally on the seller's computer. Once the payment is received, the marketplace would mark the order as confirmed and the seller would be responsible for fulfilling the order. I could even automate the release of digital goods on confirmation.

Since there is no way to really enforce that sellers are legitimate with this idea, there would need to be some kind of review system, like what LocalMonero.co has. Basically you can rate a merchant if you have bought from them before. People who cheat the system would drop in rankings and be avoided, while good sellers would move up in discoverability. And all merchants would be discoverable in the home screen via search or browsing. You could also subscribe to favorite merchants.

In my mind, this marketplace would solve a lot of problems at once. First off, it would make a decentralized place to buy and sell goods in private. This adds liquidity to Monero and gives us all a way to use our Monero for goods that we actually want to receive. Making the on boarding to this app super simple would allow it to basically function like a P2P amazon or ebay. The more people that sign up, the more things we have available. Merchants can be businesses or individuals.

Another thing it solves is onboarding to Monero in general. Instead of having people buy their Monero, they can get a wallet app on their phone, make a merchant account as quickly as you can sign up for a Nostr account, and sell something for Monero. No CEXs, just exchanging goods for digital cash. Want more Monero? Sell some more stuff? If it gained enough traction, it could easily attract more people to Monero as well.

This has even been done before, but it is on the Lightning Network and requires you to set up a lightning node, from what I can tell. It's not as easy as scanning a qr code to send money to someone for a good. Still, it's worth checking out. Here's the code: https://github.com/lnbits/nostrmarket, and here's a demonstration of it: https://www.youtube.com/live/2NueacYJovA?feature=share&t=6846

I'm posting this all here for two reasons. First, I wanted to know if this makes sense to anyone else. Does this sound like as good of an idea to others as it does to me? Is there anything I am missing? Has this been done before with Monero or is it being worked on by anyone else? I know of MoneroTalk's XMRBazaar, which was part of the inspiration for this, but from what I remember, that was going to use mediators to facilitate transactions, which is more overhead than I am thinking is necessary.

The other reason I bring it up is to see if others are interested in helping (or taking the idea and building it themselves before I can). I am inexperienced in coding around Monero as well as Nostr. I'm not afraid of the Monero part. That sounds pretty straightforward, especially with the python-monero package. The Nostr stuff might take me a while to figure out though. And since this seems like such a good idea to me, I'd rather tell others about it and maybe get a workable version sooner than keep it to myself. So if you'd like to help or run with this idea, go for it.

Thanks in advance.

Anyone with half a brain will run away from Bitcoin and ANY other crypto with which an ETF is created. This ETF creation brings forth the certainty of Big Banker manipulation, something crypto currencies were intended to prevent. This type of manipulation is not a novel concept, it's already done with the price of Oil, Silver, Gold and a wide array of other commodities thru their use of derivatives, primarly enabled by the creation of ETF's traded on stock markets globally. In short, the derivatives are the tool the bankers use to gain an unfair advantage over the individuals. They routinely sell SLV shares, but do not have the corresponding Silver to back up that trade, something you and I can not do. This also means when markets fail, the banks will own the silver and the investor will lose everything. Self-custody is the key.

I prefer privacy crypto myself, with Monero at the head of the pack for now.

In case someone out there hasn't noticed yet, the people of the world are under assault by the central bankers all over the planet. Anything we do to invite or welcome their participation will most certainly be to our detriment. Resist Central Authority of all types, decentralize everywhere possible and resist all attempts to centralize power and control anywhere you recognize it.

Honest, fungible, PRIVATE digital cash is one important front we can fight this war against us. Opt out of their systems, get out of their debt-based fiat currencies and encourage a circular economy based on something like Monero or it's successor. In essence, do your best to build an ecosystem where we can all "de-bank" ourselves on OUR terms and not have some Great Reset and CBDC's do it on THEIR terms, which I guarantee you will be far less favorable to individuals. This one step alone, if gone widespread, will do more to promote freedom than 100 violent revolutions. The illusion they create is that you can't live without them. Once you prove you can, their leverage over us ends, thus their power withers and dies.

If you're on this forum, you probably already agree with this and don't need converting, but if you're trying, as I am, to proliferate Monero adoption, I'd encourage you to copy/paste any or all of this letter and forward it if you like the message herein.

Argentina's Milei in Davos: "Collectivist experiments are never the solution to the problems that afflict the citizens of the world. Rather, they are the root cause."

So far, he's saying the correct things, wonder how long before he's kicked out of the fraternity. This was such a short snippet, I'd have to say the jury is still out, but good nonetheless.

Hi All,

Time flies! 6 years since launch! I won't bore you all with the stuff I wrote in my note at the 5th year anniversary. If interested, please search my profile and you can find it. I would appreciate it if you do.

But just to quickly recap, we started building Cake Wallet in the 3rd quarter of 2017 and launched in January of 2018. As I always say the highest and probably the most emotional time for me was when Cake got listed on getmonero. I would just sit and refresh getmonero over and over just to see the Cake logo popup. It was NOT easy to get listed on the App Store back then.

What started out as a basic (VERY basic) Monero wallet on iOS only has grown into a wallet that's basic enough for starters but filled with numerous features for advanced users and now with availability on iOS, Android, MacOS, Linux (and soon Windows).

Small plug of features : I believe we are the first wallet to add 2FA to complete various tasks - a feature I really like and user. I also like the multi send feature, coin control, address book, add your own node, accounts/subaddresses, nodes, Tor (through orbot for now), fiat api through tor, and the freedom we provide to our users to turn on/off features they don't want and so much more.

Cake now has multiple coins and we moved the Monero ONLY feature to the Monerodotcom by Cake Wallet app for the hardcore types, or if you just want another Monero wallet in addition to Cake that you don't use or use for other stuff :). (BTW MoneroDotCom Wallet is no available for MacOS desktop)

Cake's apps have over 400,000 unique downloads on iOS and Android App Store combined. We don't know about the direct downloads so its probably more than 400k. From the beginning the Monero community is important to me and very near to me.

We have been A LOT together. Any new feature we add in Cake, we ask ourselves "How will this affect Monero" or "Let's discuss with the community". This will not change for me. If I want to do something without the Monero community, I will go ahead and launch another wallet WITHOUT Monero so Cake, Monerodotcom, and Monero are not affected. This is a hypothetical.. and no nothing is planned or in the works.

In 2024, we will continue finding ways to make Monero easier to use in addition to finding more and more ways to use in the real world. Regardless of the very small minority of haters, we will keep building Cake, Monerodotcom, and Cake Pay. I will continue funding the development of Monero, Monero related projects, conferences, meetups, podcasts, books, movies, art, and much much more. You have a Monero related project? Let's talk.

Of course all this for Cake couldn't have happened with our amazing dev, support, and marketing teams that make it happen 24/7/365.

Thank you Monero Community very much for working with me for the last 6 years on making Cake Wallet and Monerodotcom Wallet a success and the premier wallets for Monero.

Vik

PS: Come join me and the Cake Team in Dallas in March at the Finney Forum on Privacy. Cake is the MAIN sponsor. Luke Parker and other Monero community members are speaking.

Following delistings, Monero will need to also decentralize it's price tracking. How can the monero price can be known in a decentralized way ? Like aggregating DEX prices in a oracle ? Or fetching directly DEX public peers ?
