It's on Mastodon, hosted at botsin.space, and since it's a Mastodon bot, I think you should be able to follow it from inside Lemmy.

Here's some recent jobs:

Continuing my DS9 rewatch. Tonight’s episodes were

  • Afterimage
  • Take Me Out To The Holosuite

Take Me Out To The Holosuite is such a great episode. I enjoy it every time.

  • Odo as the umpire is perfect.
  • Nog: what do I do? Worf: find him and kill him!

That is all. Have a good night everyone (or morning depending where you are in the world).

I love having an entire live TV channel dedicated to re-runs of old Star Trek episodes

Ok so, I have a little Kodi setup which includes a live tv system hooked up to Pluto so I can grab a bunch of channels for free. Turns out, this includes not one, but two whole channels of just Star Trek!

The first one is mostly TNG and the original series, and the other one ("creatively" called More Star Trek) has mainly Voyager and Deep Space Nine. I like these because I don't even have to think about what episode to watch, and can just enjoy some Star Trek!

The only downside to this is well, ads lol

How are folks using the decidedly beta Mlem doing?

It’s not as fully built as the developer’s demo pages would suggest.

However, it can do more than some have criticized.

It’s definitely idiosyncratic at this point.

So, I’m curious, in the spirit of assisting in getting this community going, to share what people have figured out that works.

Hi, tried to post this on /r/startrek but for some reason it was never made visible. Let me know what you guys think! All suggestions/criticisms are welcome.

I tried to be as true to the Star Trek aesthetic as possible with the UI. It is based on Michael Okuda's LCARS designs but updated for modern touch screens which obviously don't require fixed buttons.

Often the subject of disagreement, Voyager is talked about poorly by some and praised by others. Seeing plenty of posts about it here. Well ya know - I think Voyager is underrated.

That show took risks. They ran some stories that were just risky in terms of writing and production - sometimes it was a hit, sometimes a stinker. That's why it has some amazing episodes and some really really stupid ones, because they were willing to take a chance on something uncertain. And I respect that, too many shows these days feel like the same recycled crap because television has become so risk-averse and they're not willing to take a chance on something that might turn out dumb.

So we got ones like the infamous warp 10 episode, and those are remembered as cases where the show got really dumb. But as an example, Seven of Nine could've completely bombed that show. Yes it looked like they were bringing on a bimbo for sex appeal, and they absolutely could've went that route with her. Fans might've hated the change no matter what. I mean, that's a big deal, losing a main character and adding a new one - shows don't always survive that.

Also there are things I notice from a production standpoint. From reading about the making of TNG, one thing I remember is them talking about never wanting to damage the costumes or get them dirty, or damage the set. That increases their production costs, cheaper to just not do that.

But Voyager does this all the time. Uniforms are always getting burned and torn, Neelix spills things on his shirt, the bridge is shown being blown up or completely transformed. All the times they have smoke inside there, there's something with water, parts are broken off - that's something they had to clean up for the next episode. If they show burn marks on the captain's chair, that means they'll have to be cleaned or the whole prop replaced, at the risk of it not being identical or impossible to fix.

So the point is - respect for taking those risks. Didn't always land, but plenty of them did.

I only watched the first episode so far. I swear to god, if they don't bring Data's daughter back to life, I'm going to commit warcrimes.

As of this moment, the instance has 108 official users, by Lemmy's metrics. In terms of subscribers:

c/startrek: 145

c/daystrominstitute: 75

c/risa: 20

How do those numbers square with the number of users? I have no idea! But either way...

It's been a long road

I have watched every film and every episode of every series of Star Trek. It was glorious, the only thing I didn't really enjoy was the animated series.

I saw a lot of TNG when it was on TV when I was younger and always loved it so a few years back I decided to just watch everything trek available. There's so much, I can't quite believe I actually finished it all.

It's been a long road, now bring on Strange New Worlds!

We need ShittyDaystrom and Startrekmemes on this instance. Please make it so. Since I'm signed up on another instance, apparently I cannot create communities here.

I'm trying to watch Voyager again(never finished it, dropped it around season 3) and every time i'm watching VOY I think to myself: "why am I watching this when I could be watching DS9?" so I'm mixing both right now.

and the sharp contrast between the Maquis-Starfleet crew drama & Major Kira's dilemma between her roots and her new position is huge. 7 seasons of conflict vs one episode.. Just another way DS9 laps VOY.
