This release is be focused on polishing the app further.

I've been extremely busy for the past few months and will continue to be busy for the foreseeable future. To help get changes out sooner, this release will be broken down into multiple parts.

Full changelog

  • Start migration to Material 3 Expressive, Google's new design system.
  • Improve app startup time.
  • Improve experience for instances that disable downvotes. Downvote buttons are hidden on the post feed/post screen. Downvote actions on these instances are ignored.
  • Improve search support on PieFed instances.
  • Improve the feel of bottom sheet menus. Fix a bug where flinging on a bottom sheet does not dismiss the bottom sheet.
  • Fix a bug where the wrong image is shown in the post feed.
  • Fix a bug where tapping on retry on the load error UI on the search screen will add another load error UI.
  • Fix a bug where sometimes the app says there is a network error even though there is an internet connection.
  • Fix a bug where the app cannot recover from a network error until the app is restarted.
  • Fix some bugs related to "Find in page".

Update

Added more minor changes as part of the v1.71.2 release:

  • Fix a bug where the upvote or sometimes downvote button was missing.
  • Improve gestures so that the gesture icon is always on screen. This fixes the issue where the gesture icon might be off screen if the post/comment being acted on it very long.
  • Improve comment/post editor so that the view will auto scroll to the cursor when the keyboard is opened/closed. This fixes an issue where opening the keyboard would cause the cursor to become offscreen.

Update 2

  • Fix a bug where posts are incorrectly marked as read when "Swipe between posts" is enabled.
  • Fix a UI bug where reporting on posts will show the progress spinner forever.
  • Minor tweaks to post UI.
  • Update "Manage internal settings backup" UI.
  • Add setting to mark post as read on post hide.

[2025] Roadmap (lemmy.world)
submitted 7 months ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) by idunnololz@lemmy.world to c/summit@lemmy.world

Will be tracking the roadmap by year going forwards.

Planned changes

  • Offline mode (view posts, comment, vote all offline with an offline engine that tracks everything and performs the actions once network is established).
  • Setup wizard.
  • Extremely out of date version check? (Eg. if the app version you are using is over x versions out of date)
  • Export tables as part of export settings. Currently there is a limitation for the import/export settings feature. It only supports settings which are represented as key-value pairs. However some settings are represented as lists and these are stored in tables in a db. This change will require the app to know how to import/export a table as well as possible showing this option to the user.
  • Revisit the "more options" menus. Some of them are getting too long.
  • Revisit how settings (specifically Settings search) is implemented

Specific user requests

  • Instead of showing a circle when votes are hidden, show nothing instead.
  • Take screenshot from post feed.
  • Add “I’m feeling lucky” button. Not sure where to add this. Maybe on the "Search" screen somewhere.
  • Allow users to choose to check unread counts for more than just the current account. Also surface the unread counts for other users somehow.
  • Add option to navigate by side bar (like the OG apps from material 1)
  • Add some way to indicate a community is one you are subscribed to everywhere in the app. Eg. When searching for a community in the community selector, in the suggestions window when drafting a post/comment or in the seaech community screen in multicommunity or filter by community in search.
  • add option to import communities from Reddit
  • add setting to separate recent communities, bookmarks and history by account.
  • allow admin/mods to comment in locked posts.
  • comment headers are still cutting off for super long instance names or user names. (also post headers: https://lemmy.world/post/34057973)
  • see if there is a way to check which comments were made since the last time you viewed a post and to highlight them somehow (apparently boost does this?). If this isn't possible, add an option to highlight new posts (maybe with an adjustable time range). 15m seems like a good amount of time.
  • Set the ‘hide read posts’ option as default on. So when I load the feed I don’t have to hit ellipses then hide read posts again. Make it persist even if I change sorting mode.
  • each post in the feed should have a ‘mark as read’ button I can tap easily, when hit post auto hides.
  • a button that scrolls down kind of like the scroll to next comment thread functionality, with the up and down buttons, BUT it scrolls the main feed screen by a page at a time.
  • maybe surface search within community in more places?
  • https://lemmy.world/post/29147076/16965825
  • add url domain to compact layout (like web)
  • add FAB quick action to refresh the post feed.
  • add setting to download file to folder based on community: https://lemmy.world/comment/17081662
  • https://lemmy.world/comment/16965825
  • think about how to support sharing as a ULR and as a "mention".
  • share image URL via unproxied link. Details: https://lemmy.world/post/29634477
  • add search options to search by special feeds such as subscribed, local, or moderator view.
  • Inline embeds similar to Discord/Slack - https://lemmy.world/post/30227433
  • Sports Mode. It’s a toggle for viewing comments in a post that automatically refreshes every 15 seconds, which is really great for participating in live threads.
  • Add some way to search from within a community (auto-filter by community).
  • Add setting to disable recents in community selector.
  • Add a way to sort communities by number of times visited on the device: https://lemmy.world/comment/17413948
  • Fix "All subscribed" feed bugs. Eg. https://lemmy.world/post/27333742/17419576
  • Add a setting to make long tap the gesture to show the UI in the image viewer and make single tap close the image viewer.
  • Add suggestions for community to post to in the create post fragment based on post history
  • Add setting to force wrap post/comment headers when using icons.
  • Add a "marker" tool to the built in image editor.
  • Add a setting to auto-lock videos in the orientation based on the aspect ratio of the video and the device screen aspect ratio.
  • Add a setting to adjust the maximum height (or maybe width?) of an embedded image (eg. an image within a comment).
  • Add setting to the rich text editor toolbar to display a label for each action.
  • Hide Downvote Button on Instances with Downvoting Disabled
  • Add option to hide actions in the rich text editor toolbar.
  • Add setting to optionally use a GIF's metadata to determine whether to loop or not instead of auto-looping.
  • Add option to change the color of the badges on the bottom bar so that different colors indicate different things. https://lemmy.world/post/32520561
  • Add option to set default language id. https://lemmy.world/post/32603224
  • Add support for deleting communities & transfering communities in app. https://lemmy.world/post/32893291
  • https://lemmy.world/post/33177509
  • Add setting to choose between different strategies of adding a "cross-post" disclaimer. Options are: Never, Always, and Only if url is blank.
  • Add support for templates for more mod actions.
  • Add support for templates for posts possibly.
  • Add support for grouping multiple cross-posts together (like piefed web).
  • Add support for Piefed topics/feeds (https://lemmy.world/post/33653279)
  • Add hide duplicate posts (as opposed to just marking them as read).
  • Add setting to have hide read default to on.

Stretch features (nice to have but I need to do more research)

  • Possible integration with mastodon/? (needs research)
  • Support Mbin?
  • Sync between devices?
  • Turn chat in Summit into a "first class" feature.

Completed

  • Add haptic feedback to some actions such as voting and posting/commenting

I'm trying to make a post, but I get this error. I edited the title a couple times, but I'm not sure exactly what is wrong

As admin of my instance I get the option of banning users from communities, in the context menu of posts. But usually I want to ban them from the whole server.

I do get the option to issue a sitewide ban when I handle reports.

Can I get the admin options in the post's context menu and on a user's page as well?

As a user coming from Sync, Summit has been great so far. One thing I'm missing is when peeking media posts (Sync terminology), I'm used to pressing on the media and having it come up as an overlay. When I release, it closes.

Unless I'm missing something, the current media preview functionality in Summit loads the media into a new window after a long press, with options for sharing, etc., underneath. And I have to hit Back to return to my feed.

I would love an option where I can use press and hold with overlayed media instead, that will just go away once I'm done viewing by releasing my finger.

Many thanks for considering!

I find I need to edit my comments more often than I need "take screenshot" or "share source link", so it would be nice to not have to click on the three dots each time.

1 - Is there a way to disable any sort of read post effect? I don't want titles dimmed or anything, just don't mark them in any way. If there isn't, could we please implement a toggle for it?

2 - is there a way to search a specific community for keywords in posts or comments?

After clicking "Report", a circular arrow pops up and the submission window seems to stall indefinitely. Clicking elsewhere on the screen unfreezes things, but it is unclear whether the report submission went through.

Coming from Sync for Lemmy, a feature I am missing is the ability to prompt for a pin or biometric check when switching into a particular account, or opening the app to that account.

This would be useful to protect more sensitive accounts, especially if it can also hide the protected accounts details on the account switcher, perhaps with a custom account display name local to the app?

I originally posted this in !Lemmy@lemmy.ml , but was told it's a client based. So here is my suggestion to Summit for Lemmy.

I suggest changing it to

"[Crossposted](Hyperlinked to the post), Via !Lemmy@lemmy.ml (Original post community)

The post content.(Unquoted if It's own post, quoted if other person post) "

This is a more human readable Template and it gives more info about the crosspost.

After entering and exiting a post in the feed, the previous and next posts are incorrectly marked as read.

This bug seems to be specific to when "swipe between posts" is enabled.

First, thanks for your hard work, always!

Since I've noticed you've been working on fixing reported bugs or user requests, I think this would be a nice thing to fix.

In very long posts, if I use the "Find in post" function, type the word I want to find and obtain multiple matches, when I tap on the downwards arrow to scroll and see all the matches the page doesn't scroll. This makes using the Find function quite inconvenient.

You can replicate this in my post here. Try searching for the controller icon 🎮.

Hey there,

I'm new to summit so please excuss me if this is an user error on my end..

The behavior I experience: Nsfw posts with images get displayed in the feeds, but for redgif posts I need to first open the post, then I see a warning about NSFW material, when I tab on that then the app shows me the video.

When I turn on NSFW mode the videos are still now displayed in the feed, but when I tab on a redgif post it at least shows the video immediately without me having to dismiss a NSFW warning.

This would be an okay solution for me, although the behavior still looks like a bug? But NSFW mode turns itself off every time I reopen the app, probably because the mode is intended to be a temporary override..

I've searched the settings for NSFW but all settings seem to be in order, otherwise the NSFW images shouldn't show up in my feeds, no? NSFW filter is off, NSFW blurring is off, videos are on autoplay.

Any help would be highly appreciated. Besides this issue the app has been rock solid and highly performant in my testing so far, would love to make it my daily driver. :)

I get the error message "Client error. Code: 401. Message: Attempted to call an auth'd endpoint with the wrong account. Account instance: swg-empire.de Api instance: lemmy.world." when trying to comment after visiting a link.

To reproduce:

  1. Have a non-lemmy.world account
  2. Visit https://lemmy.world/post/34622158
  3. Go back to this post
  4. Try to make a comment

Closing and opening the post where you wanted to comment again fixes it.

Will be implementing some user requests but will also be focusing on polishing the app a bit as well.

Changes so far:

  • Fix a bug where the wrong image is shown in the post feed.
  • Improve experience for instances that disable downvotes. Downvote buttons are hidden on the post feed/post screen. Downvote actions on these instances are ignored.
  • Improve app startup time.
  • Fix a bug where tapping on retry on the load error UI on the search screen will add another load error UI.
  • Improve search support on PieFed instances.
  • Improve the feel of bottom sheet menus. Fix a bug where flinging on a bottom sheet does not dismiss the bottom sheet.
  • Start migrating to M3 Expressive.
  • Fix a bug where sometimes the app says there is a network error even though there is an internet connection.
  • Fix a bug where the app cannot recover from a network error until the app is restarted.
  • Fix some bugs related to "Find in page".

Update

Been crazy busy these past two month and I'm about to have a busy 3 - 4 days coming up. Due to my current erratic schedule I will be splitting this release up into parts. This way I still get to implement everything I want under one major release version while not making users wait a whole month.

I will try my best to get a release out tomorrow night 🤞.

I searched through the settings but couldn't find this option. The avatar disappears when the comment is collapsed so it must be something that could be an option.

This update adds a new page to Settings: the Inbox page. A few news settings have already been added to the inbox settings page. These settings are based on what users have requested in the past.

This update also contains big changes to hide read. In the last update, new behavior was added to the hide read feature. The new behavior lived alongside the old behavior which was done to test the waters but it is not ideal in the long run.

This update effectively removes the old behavior of hide read. The "combo" menu item consisting of both a button and a toggle is kept. However, the button portion of hide read now turns hide read on and refreshes the feed. Tapping on it while hide read is already on will cause the feed to refresh, hiding all read posts and fetching new posts.

The FAB quick action for hide read has been updated to have the same behavior. I recommend using this quick action instead of Toggle hide read which was introduced in the last major release.

Hopefully the new hide read will be more intuitive for users and reduce confusion.

Full changelog

  • Add inbox settings screen.
  • Add inbox setting to change the FAB button action.
  • Add inbox setting to toggle auto-mark as read when an inbox item is tapped. Note that this is now off by default.
  • Add inbox setting to show the full content of inbox items in the inbox list.
  • Add post feed setting to set the maximum height of a post.
  • Change hide read button to turn on hide read and then do a refresh.
  • Change FAB quick action hide read to turn on hide read and then do a refresh.
  • Change how filters work. Regex filters now ignore case sensitivity, regular filters now have an option to only apply if they match the whole word.
  • Change URL detection method. Hopefully this will result in less URL-in-markdown related issues.
  • Change inbox to no longer auto-mark items as read when tapped. You can change this behavior in Settings > Inbox.
  • Remove old hide read.
  • Fix a bug in the link preview dialog where the open link/copy link buttons don't work if the link cannot be loaded.
  • Fix a bug where double tapping on the home button would not load the default post feed.

Update

Since "auto-mark as read" for inbox items is now off by default, the "mark as read" button in the bottom bar no longer makes as much sense. Updated this button to instead be a toggle (eg. if the inbox item is read then the button will be "mark as unready", if the inbox item is unready the button will be "mark as read").

  • Update inbox message screen's bottom bar action to have a "toggle read status" button instead of a "mark as read" button.
  • Fix an image loading issue.

Update 2

Released v1.70.1 to fix the image loading issue.

22
9

Until recently (I think before 1.69.4 but I am not sure) tapping the Home icon went back to the top of the current feed and double tapping it went to tge default feed and reloaded the content.

Now double tapping just goes back to the top of the current feed without reloading.

Not sure if the change was intentional, but I liked the old behaviour and would like to see it back.

Post not displaying (lemmy.world)
submitted 3 weeks ago by anon6789@lemmy.world to c/summit@lemmy.world

I'm on the latest update.

I made 4 posts this morning, but only 3 show up for me in the app. All 4 and my unintended duplicates show up in a browser.

It didn't give any error message. I've given it a few minutes, and I've restarted the app, but still not showing up.

They do show up in my profile in Summit.

Ran across this broken link here. Summit shows links differently to the webui, and probably also other apps. I think matching webui behavior is best here.

There seems to be more complex regex at play, including checking for matching brackets etc.. Probably best to dig that out of the sourcecode.

Examples:

Summit: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orion_(spacecraft)
Raw: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orion_(spacecraft)
Webui: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orion_(spacecraft)

Summit: https://example.org/aa(aa
Raw: https://example.org/aa(aa
Webui: https://example.org/aa(aa

Summit: https://example.org/aa(aa)
Raw: https://example.org/aa(aa)
Webui: https://example.org/aa(aa)

Interestingly while writing this, I noticed the rules for android long press text select also match webui behavior.

Link handling (feddit.uk)
submitted 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) by PhobosAnomaly@feddit.uk to c/summit@lemmy.world

Any chance the way in which links are handled could be amended? I've not seen the Summit design docs but it appears as though when a user clicks a link, a dialog box appears and the app tries to preview the link, before the user can continue onwards.

In this instance, it would appear that the preview call has failed in some fashion, and does not allow the user to proceed with either copying or opening the link - both buttons are unresponsive.

Any chance the previewing can be interrupted with a "Open Anyway" or "Force Open" button, with perhaps a first-time-only warning stating that only trusted links should be blindly opened?

Cheers!
