Been thinking of watching the old Digimon anime. Is this a good idea? Am I about to go into debt for a new TCG?

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 is a better investment. No need for high-end PC, plus there's also a open-source Infinity Engine port available called gemrb.

Very different than a show and a TCG

TCGs are expensive, as the OP said themselves. Personally, I feel like buying them contributes to unnecessary and wasteful pollution, as these cards are not recyclable, owing to the plastic coating and holographic primer. cRPGs, on the other hand, can also be played with friends. Infinity-based games are also not computationally demanding, making it accessible for everyone.
