Google search sucks so hard these days, so for any like me wanting to know what this means:

Semetary = Pet cemetary

🤯

It’s a reference to Pet Sematary, a book where a guy buries his cat in a pet cemetery in the woods behind his house and it comes back wrong. Among other things.

Pet Sematary, two A's one E.

The name has irked me for ages, it's so wrong and so famous, haha.

The incorrect spelling in the title of Pet Sematary was inspired by a sign at a real cemetery near King’s old house. In real life, King lived in a house with a pet cemetery in the back. The cemetery was marked with a sign that read, “Pet Sematary,” which was simply misspelled by some local children. The misspelling is given a similar explanation in the book: some local kids found the cemetery, adopted it as their own and cared for it, and made that sign by sounding out “cemetery” phonetically, clearly not knowing how to spell the actual word.

I've heard the story, and it is perfect but my brain absolutely struggles to read it. It manages to sound close while being mostly wrong, haha.

Thanks, I should’ve looked at the red wiggle a little closer!

I think the title is fun, it was a real sign! Obviously made by children 😆

fucking hell, all I got was million links about a rapper and AI confidently claiming semetary does not exist and is a mispelling. thanks!

Same.

Then to deepen this rabbit hole further, I'll add: so next I did a search specifically for site:wiktionary.org, and it took me to https://fi.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/sematary - I don't even know what language that is (Google Search says "Finnish - Detected" so uh... that's probably it).

That's right, Google itself is now corpo-speak, and apparently you and I can understand authentically-offered Finnish better than such for-profit "English" (max out the short-term stock bondage for the investors fr fr no cap skibidi rizz).

The weirdest thing is that DuckDuckGo is my default (I must have re-used an old window or something to even be on Google at all?), and btw it finds the correct answer immediately. But damn this was an interesting digression today!

No, I got it right on duck duck go too. I wonder if they have something filtering out junk now

[–] OpenStars@discuss.online 2 points 3 weeks ago

All it would take would be to ignore the SEO and focus on actual metrics like the words used on the page and links to & from the site and such.

[–] M137@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

The URL begins with "fi", that's obviously Finnish.
