Piracy is good and you should do more of it. Use https://aniwave.to/ and https://4anime.gg/ for streaming, and https://nyaa.si/ for torrents. Piracy is the only means of digital protest that audiences have to fight poor worker treatment.

For this edition of Saturday Anime Night, we’re wrapping up Diamond Is Unbreakable (2018), the fourth part of the much-beloved anime adaptation of Hirohiko Araki’s legendary manga, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. Three episodes left, 37 through 39. Expect a whole bunch of muscley guys doing silly poses while fighting other muscley guys.

After that is California Crisis (1986), a classic OVA about a big chase for a locked box containing sinister dark sphere that does bad stuff. 45 minutes of pure 80s anime aesthetic. Cars go fast. Palm trees and neon lights are cool. Director is Mizuho Nishikubo, who also did the Megami Tensei OVA (1987), and Giovanni’s Island (2014), both of which we previously watched.

Last is Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms (2018), a high-fantasy anime film about a girl who is part of a long-lived race that has closed itself off to the rest of the world. Her country is invaded, and she decides to raise a baby orphan, who turns out to be a human. He grows up while she stays young, and uh-oh, drama ensues. Director is Mari Okada, one of the few female directors making anime features. This is by far her best-known and best-regarded work to date. Great reviews for this one, so let’s check it out.
