No, it's amazing. It also works for describing the overall theme of decay for the third age.
Also fits Galadriel and her decision to rather remain Galadriel and go into the west instead of become the "Dark Queen". She's literally the oldest living being besides Sauron itself residing on Middle Earth by that point.

Is Treebeard older? I would have thought the opposite.
He's the oldest thing that walks Middle Earth aside from Bombadil.
The Wizards are older, though, if you consider their non-physical spirit form that's been around pretty much since the beginning.
