RULES (updated 01/22/25)

  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won't be punished for trying.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There's a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it's vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a "controversial" message for it to be allowed.
  4. Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
  5. No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
  6. Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.

I'm losing my will to fight. You're losing your will to fight. In the last few weeks, you've been nothing but despair. I am trying to hold it together so I can keep up the fight. But it's been getting harder. All the levity has been lost. I guess I got more levity from you than I realized. I don't know how I became so dependent on you. Isolation has become the norm for us, I guess. But right now, all I know is that I can't do this without you. You've gotta stay strong, and stay light. So that I can stay strong, and stay light.

Yes, you. The faceless mass.

As important and as concerning as many current events are especially in relation to American politics, I didn't consider that I needed to read this. Thanks for providing that perspective. It's a crazy world both in here and out there imo and I think the best we can do given the circumstances is to be careful about how we consume as that can promote apathy and further doomscrolling. Instead, I feel like it's for the best for any of us here to create. Doesn't matter what you make, Where you are at, or how skilled you may be but I hope for the best in all of us!

YSK UniversalMonk is pretty much yet another fascist, with being a regular on c/conservative and defending Trump on many issues here.

Yes, many people are still living on their lives in the U.S. with not much difference, and doomscrolling doesn't help. But all the executive orders of Trump are not meaningless and all the daily illegal ICE deportations are not lies.

It's best to focus on and support your local community, and not be pessimistic, but it's also not good to fall into such people's hands and ignore everything happening right now in the U.S.

I apologize, I had been seeing them posting on lemm.ee for a little while, so I thought that the account was still active.

Don't worry, it's pretty recent

Agreed. So many on Lemmy and Reddit just doomscroll all day, all night. Never looking up to see the people around them who are smiling, going on with their lives, enjoying good conversation, hugging, kissing, laughing, etc.

The world isn't perfect. I get that. Especially depending on what country you are in.

But here in the US we have it sooooo good, it is actually rude to complain about how tough things are here, because so many other people have is way worse and actually have real problems.

Here people complain about making 80K a year on their very first jobs from college, and that their mom watches Fox News too much and/or their "all" Lemmy section has more than one post by Universal Monk. Big. Fucking. Deal. lol
