If Apple does this, good bye iPhones. Who would use a compromised device that lets all the governments spy on you? Especially since they definitely have the ability to utilize AI to filter through conversations and identify keywords. Fuck that.

...We've all been doing that for years.

Snowden implicated Google and Apple in 2013.

Most platforms did not had e2e back in 2013. now most offer it (thought sometimes it is optional)

Who cares if your messages are e2e. Your keyboard is snitching on fucking everything, in every single app.

Futo keyboard has no telemetry whatsoever

[–] themurphy@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If the default ones does, 95% of the data is still harvested. Then we don't really matter.

But yeah, everyone reading the guy aboves comment, get the keyboard. The more the better.

I switched a couple of months ago, from SwiftKey. Had been using that for ever, long before Microsoft bought it.

NGL, the transition was a bit rough, and the first month my error rate spiked. All good now though, plus Futo has a bunch of super useful features SK never had. Overall, very happy.

This might be a stupid question but if I have data sharing disabled on SwiftKey, doesn't that mean my typing data isn't being shared with Microsoft? Or does it still just do that

Who knows?

Unless a piece of software is open source, you cannot know.

Futo has no internet access permission as well so android won't let it and you won't have to check the code after every update.

+1 for FUTO. The keyboard and voice to text is awesome.

How does it compare to Heliboard?

[–] ArsonButCute@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Looks to have the same features, Heliboard appears to use the Swype library from SwiftKey which is a close source blob, use that info how you will.

Ooh does Futo have it's own FOSS swipe-typing implementation?

[–] Zoot@reddthat.com 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Does Futo allow for swipe to text?

Oh this keyboard is perfect. Thank you for telling me, it took a bit of customizing and it'll take some time for it to learn my mannerisms but I love this!

Been using the Samsung keyboard for years so this'll take Mr a minute to get used to, but just the purple/black theme and swipe has me sold

Corporate e2e is awesome: I have a key, You have a key, Corporation controls the software managing the keys... 🫣
