Is there a rundown on what they're all like? Only familiar with Lemmy and Mastodon
Check out https://fediverse.party/en/miscellaneous/ and filter by ActivityPub to see the many apps that use a similar protocol to Lemmy along with quick descriptions. Not all apps there will be well populated, but it will give you an overview of what some of the fedi apps do.
