My understanding is that they can seek pretty much whatever they want. But ultimately the actual prison sentence is based on the evidence. 33 years will be just what the prosecution has calculated, based on his crimes and their interpretation of the sentencing rules, but there are other factors such as how cooperative he is during the trial, maybe he grows a brain. Then there is a limited amount of judge discretion on top of that.
So he may get well less than 33 years.
Although I can't reasonably see it being less than 10. So this idiots out of the picture essentially whatever unless somehow the trial falls through.
