Fuck cycle lanes! - Carbrain

I feel like that should extend for cyclists. Cycle lanes are such a half-assed measure. Have a road and want to make it cycle friendly? Just paint a random ass line to denote cycling, sounds great.

But what if a car needs to make a turn? Well obviously it can pull into the cycling lane. But what if the road narrows or turns and we can't hit required lane widths? No problem, just have the cycle lane abruptly end and reappear later, maybe. Oh but during a special event we might want parallel parking, that's ok, just park over the cycle lane to give the remaining traffic lane plenty of leeway. What if a cyclist needs to turn left at an intersection? Back into the road with the cars with you. Cyclist looks to go straight while a car is looking to turn right? Uh oh.... Even at their best, there's still barely any meaningful protection to keep the cars from hitting the cyclists.

A properly respected path for cycling? Cool. Doing a zero cost opportunistic, inconsistent painting of a new line and declaring victory? Not so cool.

I live on a street with a cycle lane. To get on the highway ramp, you have to cross over the cycle lane. That is safe only if you wait for the solid white line to become dotted. Otherwise, you are crossing the cycle lane on a hill and can't tell if a bike is already in the lane. Since people here have donkey brains, they obviously cross over early. Terrible.
