Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

MODERATORS

Ocasio-Cortez took to Instagram after the Department of Homeland Security suggested they may pursue arrests of three Democratic lawmakers who partook in a protest outside of an ICE facility in Newark, New Jersey. Reps. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ), Rob Menendez (D-NJ) and LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) all attended the protest.

If you come for my constituents, stop no...

If you come for our mayors, that's unfortunate.

Threaten our governors? So sad, horrible, can nothing be done?

Come for me? We're going to have a problem.

None fo the Dems are going to do shit until they come for them directly, a year after it's too late to do shit.

[–] MangioneDontMiss@lemm.ee 13 points 2 hours ago (2 children)

dude we should all be rioting at this point. shit is so fucked.

The oligarchs have the population exactly where they want them to be: poor, unhealthy, divided and unable to mount a concrete unified resistance.

[–] MangioneDontMiss@lemm.ee 7 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

the whole US population has been indoctrinated to believe non-violent action is effective and the only thing thats acceptable. fucking strange for a country that is so hardcore 2a.

Despite the perception that we are a country of cowboys, not all of us believe that the solution to our problems is to go out and start killing people.

Which is cool and all, but fascism has never been beaten in a peaceful manner. Fascists don't give a shit about how peaceful or honorable you are. They'll strip you of your rights, imprison anyone who disagrees, and murder the people they don't like.

[–] LandedGentry@lemmy.zip 1 points 18 minutes ago* (last edited 17 minutes ago) (1 children)

Well you can go out there and brandish a firearm at gesticulates vaguely all you want then. Let me know how that works out for you.

I'm not american, so thankfully I'm not in a position to, but either you lay down, and let them do whatever they want to do like the ordinary germans in the 1930's, or you stand against it, because freedom and democracy is worth dying for. If democracy isn't worth dying for, then you won't ever be able to have it.

You have no clue what I do with my time/effort/resources to push back man. You're strangely binary about this. You make it sounds like it's "lay down and die" or "get a gun and start blasting." Let's say I even buy into your view on this, where do I start? Do I just go take a crack at a politician? Walk around strapped threatening people? What are you actually advocating for here?

Yes. Some people disagree(d).

You first 🤷‍♂️

I get this seems flippant but truly, I see so many "we need a general strike" and "we should be protesting/rioting" comments but whenever a protest or something is done people go "look at the neolibs patting themselves on the back" from the safety of their keyboards.

What have you done lately? What have any of us done lately? We're all sitting around waiting for someone else to go "get out there and do it!" It's not going to happen. We have to organize. And here's the unfortunate truth: Organizing isn't sexy. It takes a LOT of work and you get told "no" a lot. I find it very hard to participate sometimes. But we all have to do it rather than smash our keyboards about it.
