A lawsuit filed by educational publishers in 2024 accuses Google of profiting from textbook piracy. At the heart of the complaint are claims that Google's ‘systemic and pervasive advertising’ of infringing copies promotes pirated copies sold by third parties. In its recent motion to dismiss, Google argued that the publishers' vicarious liability claim fails to meet the legal standard. In an opinion and order handed down this week, the judge agreed - but not on everything.

this post has nothing to do with google pirating anything. if anything, this case showcases google as a pro-piracy advocate in favour of the general population!

the complainants allege that an advertising agency should not profit from advertisements placed by other persons who don't hold copyright for the advertised goods.

thia position is an overreach any way one looks at it. if someone advertises a scam in a newspaper, for example, it's not the responsibility of the newspaper to verify the antecedents of the sponsor.
