Without even trying to invoke the name for any degree of hyperbole, the only thing I can think of to relate this level of obscene, one-sided violence to is stories from the Holocaust. I just genuinely cannot relate this type of thing to anything else.
You don't have to try to relate it to anything else, it's been 20 months of a live-streamed Holocaust of mostly children.
They're doing what the Germans and Japanese did before the creation of concentration death camps. One of the reasons the Germans came up with the industrialized murder machine was because their soldiers were getting all kinds of messed up from shooting and stabbing so many civilians, including children. The camps allowed them to distance themselves from the whole process, while improving how fast they could kill people in larger and larger quantities.
