The argument I've heard is that reddit will be monetizing its user generated data by allowing AI programs to access it.
Yeah, that seems a little compelling, except that they've demonstrated that they keep deleted post content. If they'd be sleazy enough to train AIs on our not-deleted content, they'd probably be sleazy enough to train AIs on our deleted posts as well.
