I tend to disagree. Yes, it can cause echo chambers but most of the time if you respectfully discuss things and cite your sources you can disagree and still get upvotes.

Moreover, voting is an extremely effective deterrent against spam, trolling, and advertising.

That is very much not the experience I've had here. People rarely cite sources on the internet anymore, and definitely not here.

Voting used to be an extremely effective deterrent against spam, trolling, and advertising. It may now need some revamping to return efficacy.
