Sure.
Those same people could also accept criticism of all of the above (regarding D&D, I won't just accept criticism of the game system, I will join in and rant for hours about what a hot mess 4th Edition was) without tying it to their identities to the point of getting enraged when consumer products (or the means used to make them) are criticized as if it is an attack on themselves.
