I wish I knew of a big instance on the NA west coast, so I could be closer to it. If I understand correctly, Iโd still be able to access & comment on lemmy.world stuff, as well as other instances that are federated.
https://fediverse.observer has a map you can use to find a suitable instance.
Just in case, you are absolutely correct, you will be able to access content from Lemmy.world and actually even beehaw (which instead is not federated with Lemmy.world at the moment).
